Are you wondering if “The Daily Show” might be getting cancelled and how Jon Stewart is responding to this potential change, given that Skydance is taking over Paramount Global? With the acquisition, speculation has arisen regarding the fate of Comedy Central’s longest-running late-night program within the new corporate setup.
Here’s what Jon Stewart has said about The Daily Show and the Paramount–Skydance deal.
Jon Stewart’s reaction to rumors about The Daily Show getting canceled
Jon Stewart spoke about speculations that The Daily Show might get cancelled after Skydance took over Paramount Global.
On his podcast The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart, he mentioned, “Regrettably, we haven’t received any communication from them… No one has phoned to warn me, ‘Be prepared to vacate that office, Stewart.’ However, I’ve been evicted from more questionable places than that. We’ll find our way.
Stewart affirmed that he hasn’t exchanged any messages with David Ellison or anyone from Skydance and admitted frankly that he’s unaware of their future plans. He casually remarked, “They might decide to dismantle the entire operation, I’m not certain. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
I’ve got to say, The Daily Show has been absolutely killing it with its ratings lately! It feels like Comedy Central is almost like a constant background music (like Muzak) these days. But, let me tell you, among the current crop of shows, we’re the only ones that truly feel alive – if not for South Park, then certainly for us! I take pride in believing that we offer something unique and valuable to Comedy Central’s lineup.
Stewart commended the team responsible for the production, specifically mentioning showrunner Jen Flanz along with correspondents Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Ronny Chieng, and Michael Kosta. He expressed his joy and pride towards everyone involved, saying, “I’m just so thrilled and proud of everyone over there… If they want to take on the task, let them go ahead and do it with enthusiasm!
In a separate remark, Stewart voiced his disapproval towards Paramount Global’s recent agreement with Donald Trump, labeling it “disgraceful.” However, amidst this corporate ambiguity, The Daily Show remains prosperous. It has recently been nominated for 12 Emmy Awards, outdoing its previous best of seven nominations in the category of Outstanding Talk Series.
