Many folks recognize Scarlett Johansson primarily as Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yet, even with two Oscar nominations under her belt, she can’t fathom why Avengers: Endgame only received a nod for Best Visual Effects and not more.
Oscars Don’t Like Heroes
In a recent interview, she stated that the film seemed improbable and shouldn’t have been successful, yet it astonished audiences worldwide and became one of the most financially successful movies ever made. Interestingly, in the past, superhero films have not typically received significant recognition at award ceremonies. However, an exception to this rule was the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film “Black Panther” from 2018, which starred Chadwick Boseman and earned acclaim before his unfortunate passing in 2020.
The Future Of Black Widow
Her portrayal of Natasha Romanoff was undeniably award-worthy, and it’s evident that she adores this role deeply. However, unfortunately, we won’t see her reprising the character, as her character met its end in the final chapter of the Avengers saga.
It would be very hard for me to understand in what capacity [returning] would make sense for me, for the character that I play.
Apart from her, it’s equally crucial that the character remains deceased, particularly for the fans who find it significant. This is why she reprised her role only in a prequel – specifically in the 2021 movie “Black Widow,” where she was also involved in its production.
Endgame Vs. Infinity War
From my perspective, there’s a lot of debate within our fan community about which Marvel film deserves the acclaim more – for me, Infinity War takes the cake when it comes to narrative depth. Yet, there’s no denying that both Endgame and Infinity War are nothing short of awe-inspiring, showcasing top-notch acting and visual effects. Infinity War hit theaters in 2018, marking the third Avengers movie, and it’s safe to say that it has left an indelible impression on many fans, who often consider it the best of the series.
Following the Avengers, you might encounter a team known colloquially as the Thunderbolts. However, their official title is actually the New Avengers. Despite the catchier name, the Thunderbolts moniker, we believe, doesn’t quite capture their essence as accurately as the New Avengers does.
Do you think Endgame deserved an Oscar? Or that Infinity War deserved it more?
