House of the Dragon Will End With Season 4, Season 3 Production Date Set

As a devoted fan who’s been following the Targaryen saga since the days of Daenerys Stormborn, hearing that House of the Dragon is set to conclude with its fourth season feels like the end of an era. I can almost hear Viserys whispering his final words, “The dragon has three stones, and I am the third.”

The fourth season of House of the Dragon is set to conclude, as per reports from showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal.

At a press conference after the Season 2 finale of the show (as reported by Variety), creator Condal announced that Season 4 of the popular HBO Game of Thrones spin-off will be its last season. In addition to this news, Condal also shared that production for Season 3 of the series, which doesn’t have a confirmed release date but is anticipated to air in 2026, is planning to begin filming soon.

When will House of the Dragon Season 3 start filming?

As reported by Condal, it’s expected that House of the Dragon will begin filming around the start of 2025.

In simpler terms, Condal mentioned that he hasn’t talked directly with HBO about this matter, but based on his understanding of the series’ narrative style, he expects the pace and intensity of the show to remain consistent from Season 2 and beyond.

In the second season of House of the Dragon, we saw the addition of Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Previous cast members Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham also returned for more episodes.
