House of the Dragon: Who Rides Silverwing & Vermithor in Season 2?

House of the Dragon: Who Rides Silverwing & Vermithor in Season 2?

As a devoted fan of House of the Dragon, I am thrilled to witness the continuation of this captivating storyline in Season 2. The introduction of Vermithor and Silverwing, two legendary dragons ridden by King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne respectively, has left fans wondering who would be lucky enough to claim these magnificent beasts.

In the fifth episode of House of the Dragon: Season 2, released recently, fans are curious to discover which characters will mount Vermithor and Silverwing, the dragons mentioned by Rhaenyra that were previously ridden by King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen. These dragons have been unridden since their previous riders perished. With Meleys, the largest dragon of the Black, deceased following the Battle of Rook’s Rest, Jacaerys and Rhaenyra come to a realization that they require new individuals to tame the semi-wild dragons residing on Dragonstone. They must search for people with distant ties to House Targaryen or even Valyrian heritage.

In George R. R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” these individuals are referred to as “dragon heirs.” The readers have previously encountered some of them.

Does Ulf White ride Silverwing in House of the Dragon Season 2?

Certainly, Ulf, identified as one of the “dragonseeds” in the book, is anticipated to mount Silverwing in the second season of House of the Dragon.

In the book “Fire & Blood,” Ulf initially served as a soldier on Dragonstone during the start of the Targaryen civil war. However, in “House of the Dragon,” he is portrayed as a heavy drinker who enjoys spinning tall tales. A notable difference is that in the show, Ulf hails from King’s Landing and introduces himself as a natural-born son of Prince Baelon the Brave, the father of Viserys I and Daemon, earlier in Season 2.

Among the scant dragons that made it through the war, Silverwing refuses to be mounted by any rider following Ulf’s demise.

Does Hugh Hammer ride Vermithor in House of the Dragon Season 2?

Affirming this, Hugh, identified as a dragonseed in the narrative, is likely to mount Vermithor for House of the Dragon’s upcoming second season.

From my gaming perspective, Ulf’s storyline has undergone some changes compared to mine as a character in Fire & Blood. I used to be the illegitimate son of a blacksmith residing on Dragonstone. But in the House of the Dragon series, I now call King’s Landing home instead. Additionally, my family background, which was nonexistent in the book, has been added to the show.

I was deeply engrossed in the story where Ulf and Hugh, once loyal to the Blacks, unexpectedly switched sides and allied with the Greens. They harbored secret ambitions for the throne, but ultimately met their ends. Following Hugh’s demise, Vermithor, his steed left without a rider, wreaked havoc and met his match in a fierce three-way battle between Seasmoke and Tessarion.
