House Of The Dragon: Was Sara Snow Cut Entirely From Season 2?

As a dedicated fan of “House of the Dragon,” I have been eagerly anticipating the return of this captivating series for Season 2. However, I cannot help but feel disappointed and curious about the absence of Sara Snow from the show so far. Sara, played by the talented actress Ellie Bamber in Season 1, had a significant role in George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” where she was said to have fallen in love with and secretly married Jacaerys Velaryon.

Curiosity among fans runs high regarding the possible reasons behind Sara Snow’s apparent absence or reduced role in “House of the Dragon Season 2.” They ponder if she was indeed removed from the show or if her character will make a cameo appearance. In George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” book, Sara Snow plays a significant part as she is revealed to have clandestinely wed Jacaerys Velaryon.

Was Sara Snow excluded from House of the Dragon’s Season 2 cast? Or, is there a possibility she will make an appearance in the series? Here’s what we know.

Was Sara Snow removed from House of the Dragon Season 2 and why?

Sara Snow was likely cut from House of the Dragon Season 2.

In her conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Sara Hess, a producer for House of the Dragon, hinted that the reason Sara Snow was let go from the show was due to the creators’ strong emphasis on the Targaryens’ narrative. Additionally, Hess suggested that they were so engrossed in managing the abundance of content that they could only handle what was required of their roles.

In the story, Cregan Stark, Sara Snow’s half-brother, makes an appearance in the second season premiere where he meets Jacaerys Velaryon. They form a bond to support Rhaenyra Targaryen’s cause during the Dance of the Dragons. However, in the books, their relationship strengthens before Jacaerys sleeps with Sara, which didn’t make it to the show. During an interview with EW, co-creators Ryan Condal and Hess shared that they chose not to include this plotline due to difficulties shaping Season 2’s narrative.

Will Sara Snow cameo in House of the Dragon Season 2?

We’ll have to wait and see if Sara Snow makes an appearance in any of the last three episodes of House of the Dragon Season 2.

In George R.R. Martin’s stories, Sara Snow is identified as Lord Rickon Stark’s illegitimate child. At Winterfell, during the struggle for power known as the Dance of the Dragons, Jacaerys Velaryon, an advisor to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, developed feelings for Sara when he sought out Rickon’s backing for the queen.

As a gamer, I uncovered some intriguing information: Sara and Jacaerys had an illicit affair, leading to my character, Cregan’s, fury. However, upon learning that they had clandestinely wed, my anger subsided.

Sara’s authenticity was questioned by some individuals, including Archmaester Gyldayn, who thought her marriage to Jacaerys was merely a figment of Mushroom’s imagination. Gyldayn argued that it was out of character for Jacaerys to abandon his commitment to Baela Targaryen in favor of Sara.
