House of the Dragon Season 3 Gets an Exciting Update From Showrunner

Ryan Condal, the showrunner for “House of the Dragon,” has given some fresh insights about the upcoming Season 3 of this highly praised Game of Thrones sequel on HBO. These revelations follow a gap of approximately seven months since the series completed its 8-episode second season.

What did Ryan Condal say about House of the Dragon Season 3?

During a recent chat, Condal shared that it’s likely production on House of the Dragon Season 3 will kick off in just a few weeks, as the creative team has finished penning the scripts for the upcoming season. Moreover, he hinted at the arrival of several significant new characters, suggesting that fans can look forward to witnessing “four key events” from the book being brought to life on screen.

He mentioned that filming begins in a fortnight. As actors delve into their roles, he finds it significantly simpler to pen more engaging narratives since he becomes intimately familiar with each character. For Season 3, there’s a greater sense of structure and depth from the outset because he’s writing for characters he knows well. This season also introduces some significant new characters, but many of them are already familiar faces, which makes the writing process all the more satisfying.

Condal went on to say, “Season 2 is massive, but Season 3 takes it up several notches in numerous aspects. From my rough calculation on set, there are four significant incidents from the book that we get to bring to life in three dimensions this season. This is incredibly thrilling from a grandeur and scale point of view, and I believe it’s one of the strengths of our show. The structures we’re constructing are astounding. However, what I’m most looking forward to from a dramatic perspective is that we had a chance to add some fun this season, and there’s an episode with a conceptual twist, meaning it strays from the usual format of a House of the Dragon episode. It’s heavily focused on characters, and I think it will be fantastic; I can’t wait to see it materialize.

In the upcoming Season 3 of House of the Dragon, we’ll see familiar faces like Emma D’Arcy portraying Rhaenyra, Matt Smith as Daemon, Olivia Cooke as Alicent, Rhys Ifans as Otto, Steve Toussaint as Corlys, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole, Harry Collett as Jace, Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II, Ewan Mitchell as Aemond, Bethany Antonia as Baela, Phoebe Campbell as Rhaena, Phia Saban as Helaena, Tom Taylor as Cregan Stark, Tom Bennett as Ulf White, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne, and several others reprise their roles.

The prequel narrates the ascension and fall of the Targaryens – a unique lineage of dragon rulers that managed to endure the Catastrophe of Valyria. This offshoot was developed by George R.R. Martin and showrunner Ryan Condal, who are joined by Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, Vince Gerardis as executive producers.
