As a devoted fan of “House of the Dragon,” I am absolutely thrilled with the latest developments in Season 2 Episode 5. The tension and intrigue are at an all-time high, and each episode seems to outdo the last one.

In the fifth episode of “House of the Dragon” Season 2, entitled “Regent,” events become even more intense following the thrilling fourth installment. Daemon’s attempts to quell House Bracken face unexpected challenges, leaving him at odds with various Riverlords and noblewomen. Rhaenyra, who has seen people die for her cause, grows disillusioned. At Mysaria’s suggestion, she entrusts Elinda Massey, her trusted servant or lady-in-waiting, with a confidential mission to King’s Landing.

Here is everything that happens at the end of House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 5.

House of the Dragon S02E05 Ending Explained: Who Does Rhaenyra’s Maid Meet?

What happened at the end of House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 5?

As I neared the climax of episode 5, on Dragonstone, I sent Ser Alfred Broome, a vocal critic yet devoted supporter of my cause, to Harrenhal for talks with Daemon. Later in the game, Jacaerys came back from persuading The Freys to join our ranks, and we collaborated to devise a strategy for recruiting more dragonriders. This move is expected to bring forth Addam of Hull, Ulf, and Hugh Hammer as potential dragonseed candidates.

At Harrenhal, Daemon continues to experience intense and unsettling dreams. In one of these dreams, he imagines himself engaged in an intimate relationship with his mother, Alyssa, which is beyond the boundaries even for the Targaryen dynasty. Despite the Brackens’ refusal to align with the Blacks, despite being coerced with a dragon as a threat, Daemon comes to realize that he needs men like them. He urges Willem Blackwood to think outside the box in his efforts to persuade them. However, this encouragement pushes the Blackwoods, who remain devoted to the Old Gods, to retaliate by destroying their septs and attacking the common people. This action is likely to infuriate other Riverlords and ladies, leading them to confront Daemon at Harrenhal under the banner of never serving a tyrant.

Who does Rhaenyra’s maid Elinda meet in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 5?

Elinda Massey, Rhaenyra’s servant or confidante, covertly journeys to King’s Landing to encounter Dyana (Maddie Evans), who was previously introduced in Season 1 Episode 8 as a Red Keep maid. She was victimized by Aegon II with unwanted advances. Later in Season 2 Episode 3, Dyana resurfaces as a tavern barmaid. Before this, Alicent had given her moon tea to prevent pregnancy.

Why Dyana is important in House of the Dragon Season 2?

Rhaenyra wisely sends her most loyal confidante to confer with Dyana, signaling a meaningful development in this episode. The importance of managing information during war is emphasized as the Greens make a grave error by publicly displaying Meleys’ head in King’s Landing. Mysaria draws Rhaenyra’s attention to the resulting chaos and unrest. Additionally, Aemond orders the capital gates closed, fueling further dissent among the people.

In the show “House of the Dragon,” Aegon II manages to gain some popular support due to his willingness to assist people during court sessions. However, considering the context of the series, it’s unlikely that someone as powerless as Dyana would be able to ignite a revolution against the ruling class. Nevertheless, the Blacks are hoping that when Dyana’s suffering becomes public knowledge, the growing discontent among the populace may escalate into a full-scale uprising.
