As a die-hard fan of the Horizon franchise who’s been following its development for years, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation when it comes to the rumored online multiplayer game. The whispers have been swirling around for what feels like an eternity, and while the leaked alpha footage didn’t exactly set my heart ablaze, I’m still hopeful that this could be the start of a new era in Aloy’s world.
Following two years of persistent gossip, a fresh job post from Guerrilla Games could potentially signal the first tangible clue about an impending multiplayer game set within the Horizon series, which might be online.
Rumors for the last two years
Enthusiasts of the Horizon video game series are constantly seeking news about the next installment and whispers about the emergence of a Horizon multiplayer game have been circulating for years. Such rumors might not be quenched by simply playing the upcoming Lego Horizon title, so Guerilla Games’ announcement that their next project won’t be Horizon 3, but a multiplayer one, certainly sparked interest.
For roughly two years now, whispers and assertions concerning the online version of Horizon have been circulating, yet neither Guerrilla Games nor any reliable source has provided substantial details on it.
In January 2024, some early footage and conceptual artwork was unintentionally released, providing a glimpse into what might have been for a multiplayer-focused version of Horizon. Unfortunately, this didn’t sit well with fans as the game’s visual style was compared to Fortnite.
Back in March, I was following the news about a potential delay in a game release. It turned out that PlayStation was going through some internal changes, trying to reshape its structure. Fast forward to September, and the same reliable source, Jason Schreier, hinted that this delay might be related to Guerrilla Games’ upcoming project. Exciting times ahead for gamers like me!
We might have a release window
Now, some eagle-eyed users found a job listing by the game developer for a “Release QA Intern”.
As a potential candidate, I understand that the role involves working on an online project set to launch in the early part of 2025. I’m ready and available during this period to make sure the game is thoroughly prepped and ready to go live.
Given that it might take some time for the QA phase to be fully completed, we can anticipate a release or early access version of the game around the latter part of the coming year. This is particularly true because live-service multiplayer games are often launched in a preliminary “beta” state.
