Home Alone 2 Director Wants To Cut Donald Trump Cameo: ‘It’s Become This Curse’

In a recent interview, director Chris Columbus expressed his desire to edit out one of the well-known appearances in the 1992 movie “Home Alone 2” that he feels shouldn’t have been included.

What did Chris Columbus say about Home Alone 2’s Donald Trump cameo?

In a recent conversation with the San Francisco Chronicle, Columbus addressed remarks made by President Donald Trump in 2023. Previously, Columbus stated that Trump was featured in the film due to his refusal to allow the production team to utilize his Plaza Hotel unless Trump himself appeared on screen.

2023 saw Trump post on Truth Social, asserting that Columbus pleaded with him to feature in a film, an offer he initially declined. However, Columbus remained silent on the matter until recently when he described the scene as a “curse” and expressed his regret that it’s still part of the movie.

In later years, it’s turned into a burden for me. It’s something I wish didn’t exist. I can’t help but wonder what he might be thinking, Columbus said, referring to the accusation that I was lying. I assure you, I’m not lying. He claimed I begged him to be in the movie, but I would never beg a non-actor for a role in a film. We were simply desperate to secure the Plaza Hotel.

“But it’s there. It’s become an albatross for me. I just wish it was gone.”

In addition, Columbus mentioned being surprised when he learned that the movie’s audience in Chicago, Illinois, had enjoyed the cameo during their screening in 1992, which was something he hadn’t expected.

In Chicago, we showed the movie, and when that particular scene appeared on screen, the crowd erupted with excitement. They cheered and laughed heartily, finding it incredibly amusing. Despite my extensive knowledge of comedy, I didn’t anticipate this moment being deemed so hilarious.

1992 saw the release of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, which became an instant success. This movie generated a staggering revenue of over $359 million globally, placing it as the third highest-grossing film of that year.
