Highlander: John Wick Director Gives Exciting Update on Henry Cavill Reboot

The Highlander reboot with Henry Cavill has received an exciting update.

Director Chad Stahelski, renowned for his work with the John Wick series, is presently engaged in reviving the Highlander franchise. A venture initially conceived by Lionsgate, it’s now being produced under the banner of Amazon MGM Studios instead.

When is the production window for the Highlander reboot?

The director, Stahelski, shared a thrilling piece of news about the upcoming Highlander remake and affirmed that as planned, filming will commence in September.

He mentioned that they’re currently busy with preparations, aiming to start filming around mid-September, initially in London. I really hope it turns out well.

Last month, Stahelski shared with Collider his hope for the filming to start during autumn 2025, and if all goes smoothly, it might hit theaters sometime in 2027 or 2028.

As of now, only Cavill’s casting is confirmed for the Highlander reboot. The specifics of the plot are still secret, but director Stahelski hinted that the film will blend aspects and characters from both the movie series and the TV show.

1986 marked the commencement of the Highlander franchise, with a movie starring Christopher Lambert as the lead, and Russell Mulcahy taking on the directorial role.

In a parking lot in New York City, the enigmatic character Russell Nash (Lambert) fatally duels another man with a sword. During this encounter, he inadvertently embeds a fragment of an old artifact into a car. The plot goes on as a skilled investigator named Brenda Wyatt (Roxanne Hart), accompanied by her partner Lt. Frank Moran (Alan North), uncovers traces of this mysterious weapon and initiates a probe into Nash’s activities. This investigation will eventually draw them into an age-old conflict between formidable immortals, posing potential danger to their lives.

1991 saw the release of Highlander II: The Quickening, followed by Highlander III: The Sorcerer in 1994, then Highlander: Endgame in 2000. In 2007, both Highlander: The Source and Highlander: The Search for Vengeance were released. Additionally, there have been three television series based on the Highlander franchise: Highlander: The Series, Highlander: The Animated Series, and Highlander: The Raven.
