High frame rate does actually make you better at games, according to The First Descendant bug

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from game-breaking bugs to questionable monetization strategies. But none have left me as baffled and frustrated as the recent discovery in The First Descendant.

If you own a high-performance gaming computer and are finding The First Descendant unusually simple, it might be due to a glitch granting you increased damage per second as a result of your superior frame rate.

“Upgrade your hardware for smoother gameplay and surpass the framerate barrier, as suggested humorously by some users. This tip was initially brought up by YouTube channel Ryechews Games, who urges players to adjust their settings and weapon damage.”

In simple terms, with the Tamer shooting at a rate of 30 frames per second, it takes approximately 18.83 seconds to fire all 190 bullets in a magazine. Conversely, when shooting above 60 frames per second, the time required reduces to around 15.69 seconds. This equates to a difference in damage per second (DPS) of approximately 20%. Such a significant change may seem surprising, but since The Last Descendant is primarily designed for player versus environment (PvE) experiences, most players are unlikely to be negatively impacted by this.

As a dedicated gamer and game developer, I’ve learned that employing delta time instead of a fixed tick timer is crucial for creating smooth gameplay experiences. Delta time refers to the difference in time between each frame, ensuring consistent calculations at a steady rate rather than on every new frame itself. This technique has been an essential lesson for me as well, and unfortunately, Destiny, a popular game, faced this challenge previously. However, contrary to what many gamers might expect, the high-performance PCs in Destiny’s community experienced less damage output instead of more.

Reducing the graphic quality of The First Descendant to run slower may be a preferable choice over purchasing an advantage, keep in mind that this adjustment comes with increased damage received.
