Hideo Kojima says someone else will have to make Death Stranding 3, but he does have a great idea for it

Hideo Kojima plans to pass on directing the Death Stranding franchise following the launch of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. Instead, he’ll be focusing on fresh projects like the horror game OD exclusively for Xbox and a Metal Gear-inspired title called Physint. This legendary game designer will now entrust his intriguing playground to other creators.

As a gamer speaking out, I’d share that during a chat with VGC, Kojima divulged he’s brainstormed concepts for Death Stranding 3, but here’s the twist – he won’t be the one crafting the game. Instead, it’s another creative mind who’ll breathe life into my ideas while I continue to nurture and develop other imaginative projects of mine.

Hideo Kojima won’t make Death Stranding 3

As a gamer delving into the creative mind of Kojima, I can share some intriguing insights from our chat. He outlined the idea behind Plate Gate – an in-game mechanism serving as a gateway to another landmass. This concept, if utilized effectively, could theoretically pave the way for an endless series of sequels. Yet, it’s important to note that there’s only one robust concept he has brewing for a potential third installment in this intriguing franchise.

Kojima stated that employing the Plate Gate idea could lead to an endless series of sequels. However, he has no intention of creating more, but he does have a concept for another sequel. If he were to pass this idea onto someone else, they might be able to develop it.

In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima’s game shifts its location from the United Cities of America to the vast landscapes of Australia, utilizing the Plate Gate concept. This opens up endless possibilities for global exploration, potentially allowing the series to continue indefinitely according to the director’s vision.

Kojima clarified that initially, the concept for the upcoming sequel involved the player undoing connections they had previously made, as it was revealed that connecting was a major error. However, the director shared that instead, players would merely be recycling the same environment, which he felt wasn’t fitting, much like what happens in Zelda’s Tears of the Kingdom.

Title Sequence: Death Stranding 2 – On the Shoreline sets sail on June 26th, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Although details are still under wraps, it’s anticipated that a PC version will follow suit at some point. Meanwhile, the original Death Stranding is playable now across PS4, PS5, PC, iOS devices, and Xbox Series consoles.
