Hi-Fi Rush DLC and sequel back on the cards, thanks to developer buy-out

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say, the news about Tango Gameworks being bought by Krafton and the potential return of Hi-Fi Rush has me absolutely thrilled! The first game was such a refreshing take on action-adventure games, and I can’t wait to see what they’ve cooked up for DLC.

In May 2024, Microsoft decided to shutter multiple studios, including Tango Gameworks. But fear not, enthusiasts of their surprise hit, there’s still exciting new content on the horizon!

Hi-Fi Rush studio saved!

As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that Krafton has acquired Tango Gameworks, which means they now own the high-octane IP, Hi-Fi Rhythm. In an exclusive chat with gamesindustry.biz, Maria Park, the head of corporate development at Krafton, gave us a sneak peek into the future of this exhilarating game. Exciting times ahead! We can look forward to additional DLC for the original Hi-Fi Rush and even a port for the Nintendo Switch, so get ready to groove on multiple platforms!

Park also hinted at a sequel, saying:

Yes, the team was working on Hi-Fi Rush 2 when we first met them […] I think the build we looked at was about six months old when we went to meet them.

Apart from sharing that the layout of the game levels will undergo significant alterations, Tango Gameworks has expressed intentions to shift towards a more expansive, open-world design. This prospect is somewhat concerning since such transitions have historically faced challenges, yet we remain optimistic.

For fans of Tango Gameworks’ other IPs, we do sadly have some bad news.
The Evil Within and GhostWire: Tokyo weren’t part of the deal

, so you can give up hoping for sequels of those games.
