As a passionate gamer with years of experience under my belt, this recent acquisition of Tango Gameworks by Krafton is nothing short of thrilling! The closure of Tango Gameworks earlier this year was a bitter pill to swallow for many of us who have followed their work, especially after the critically acclaimed release of Hi-Fi Rush.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that the creators behind my favorite games, Krafton, have just gotten their hands on Tango Gameworks, previously owned by Xbox! This means we can expect the exciting Hi-Fi Rush intellectual property to join their lineup. Can’t wait to see what they do with it!
In its latest financial statement, Krafton declared that they have made an acquisition. They also mentioned that they are collaborating with Xbox to ensure a seamless transition at Tango Gameworks, aiming for the process to be as smooth as possible.
Unexpectedly, Xbox made an announcement earlier this year about shutting down Tango Gameworks and other studios under Zenimax/Bethesda, such as Arkane Austin. The highly praised release of Hi-Fi Rush didn’t prevent Tango Gameworks from being closed, despite Microsoft spending a significant amount on purchasing Activision Blizzard.
But now the studio lives to fight another day under new ownership.
Krafton details Tango Gameworks & Hi-Fi Rush acquisition
Today, Krafton, Inc. announced the addition of the skilled team from Tango Gameworks to their ranks, signifying an exhilarating milestone in the company’s international growth and its initial substantial investment in the Japanese video game industry. This strategic decision will encompass ownership of Tango Gameworks’ renowned intellectual property, Hi-Fi Rush, as stated by Krafton.
Under this strategic partnership, Krafton plans to work closely with Xbox and ZeniMax to facilitate a seamless transition at Tango Gameworks. This collaboration will enable the skilled team to carry on developing the Hi-Fi Rush intellectual property and explore new projects. Krafton aims to empower the Tango Gameworks team to uphold their dedication to innovation and delivering engaging gaming experiences for enthusiasts. The partnership does not affect the existing library of games, including The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the original Hi-Fi Rush game.
Established in 2010, Tango Gameworks initially burst onto the scene with The Evil Within, a chilling survival horror title under the guidance of Shinji Mikami, the mastermind behind Resident Evil. Subsequently, they produced a follow-up to this game. They also developed Ghostwire Tokyo, an action game set in the supernatural realm.
As a thrilled fan, I couldn’t help but express my excitement over the unexpected release of Hi-Fi Rush on Xbox, which took place on January 25, 2023! This rhythm action platformer has been a game-changer, garnering widespread acclaim from both players and critics alike. Its unique blend of music, action, and platforming has truly struck a chord with the gaming community.
