Heretic’s Sophie Thatcher is Jack Quaid’s Android in New Companion Trailer

A new trailer for Companion has been released.

This month, prepare for the release of “Companion,” a fresh and captivating romantic-thriller, brought to you by Warner Bros. Pictures. Making his directorial debut in feature films is Drew Hancock, who is at the helm of this production.

What happens in the Companion trailer?

In the trailer for “Heretic,” it’s shown that actress Sophie Thatcher portrays an android named Iris, who is designed to be Jack Quaid’s character’s girlfriend, Jack (or Josh). The story seems to veer from a typical romance, as Iris reminisces about one of the happiest moments in her life being when she took the life of Quaid’s character.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Quaid expressed that the script for Companion was among the finest he’s “ever come across.

He commented, “I didn’t anticipate any of the plot twists, but this film isn’t heavily dependent on a grand revelation. Each disclosure felt surprising and new.

In his own words, Hancock, who was involved in the screenplay, explained that the film’s premise as a robot story serves a purpose: to distance itself from being labeled as just another robot movie. He said it could easily be categorized as “M3GAN” or “The Megan Fox movie [Subservience],” but the creators wanted to make it clear that this isn’t your typical robot film. It deviates from other current robot movies because it’s not about A.I. going awry; rather, it’s about A.I. functioning correctly.

In addition, Hancock stated that the revelation in the film that Thatcher is an android isn’t considered a spoiler because he explains that the movie doesn’t truly begin until this moment is reached. He further added, “The film is primarily about self-discovery and fundamentally, it’s a breakup story about a woman gaining strength and empowerment through her personal exploration.

This film, titled “Companion,” features Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend as part of its star-studded cast. The movie is set to hit U.S. theaters and IMAX screens on January 31, 2025, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
