Parvathy, as a part of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), expressed her viewpoint about the matter. She pointed out that there seemed to be a belief that women in the industry should feel appreciative for being given jobs by the male employers.

She further recalled that such allegations of sexual assault and abuse in Indian cinema is not at all new. The same wave came back in 2018, following the MeToo movement in Hollywood in 2017 that took place because of renowned producer Harvey Weinstein.

Parvathy stated that the Hema Committee‘s latest findings and the accusations against prominent men go beyond what’s being termed as “MeToo Part Two.” She told AFP that the report is causing widespread shock, indicating it’s not just about isolated incidents anymore. Instead, it’s a systemic issue where the system has consistently failed women.

The Thangalaan actress also shared a message with all the women in showbiz who have faced sexual assault. She said, “You are a skilled artist… do not listen to anyone who tells you to find another job if it is so difficult for you.”

Parvathy continued, “Remember, this field belongs just as much to you as it does to anyone else. Make your voice heard, so we can claim our fair share of it.”

The Hema Committee report emerged following its public release on August 19th. Within this document, it was revealed that there is a prevalent abuse of women within the Malayalam film industry. The report further exposed instances of sexual harassment, coercive casting practices (often referred to as ‘casting couch’), and an entrenched male-dominated hierarchy in the film industry, among other concerns.
