As someone who’s been hooked on Korean dramas for years now, I can’t help but get excited about Netflix’s latest offering – “Love Next Door“. Having binged-watched countless K-dramas, I can confidently say that this rom-com is shaping up to be one of the best in 2024. The frenemies-to-lovers storyline and the star-studded cast have me counting down the days until the next episode drops!
Netflix has unveiled a captivating new Korean series titled “Love Next Door“, which has sparked much conversation lately. Notably, it’s found its way onto Netflix’s top 10 TV shows list as of Aug. 19. The first two episodes debuted on Aug. 17 and Aug. 18, with even more to follow. If you’ve added this show to your queue in anticipation, here are some details that might pique your interest, such as the release schedule.
The show “Love Next Door” falls under the romance genre, much like many Korean series do, and it’s actually a blend of comedy and romance. This engaging series was directed by Yoo Je-won from scripts penned by Shin Ha-eun – both talented individuals who had previously collaborated on the highly successful K-Drama “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha”.
As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in romantic comedies, I must say that the storyline of this particular rom-com really resonated with me. The tale of Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo, two childhood friends reconnecting and eventually falling in love after a rocky start, felt incredibly relatable. Bae Seok-ryu’s decision to return to Korea to restart her life was something I could identify with, as I too have had moments when I needed a fresh start. And the awkwardness between these two characters, stemming from their shared history, was painfully familiar. Overall, this rom-com offered an authentic portrayal of the complexities of relationships and the journey towards finding love – something we can all relate to in one way or another.
Actress Jung So-min, famously recognized for her roles in ‘Playful Kiss’ and ‘Alchemy of Souls’, takes on the character Bae Seok-ryu. Meanwhile, Jung Hae-in, known for his work in ‘Prison Playbook’ and ‘D.P.’, portrays Choi Seung-hyo. The ensemble cast also includes Kim Ji-eun, Yoon Ji-on, Park Ji-young, Jo Han-chul, Jang Young-nam, Lee Seung-joon, and numerous others.
