As a horror enthusiast who’s seen my fair share of chilling films since I was but a wee ghoul, the news of Milly Shapiro’s return to the genre with “The Hallowarrior” has me positively thrilled! The post-apocalyptic Halloween twist sounds like an intriguing blend of two of my favorite times of year.
Actress Millie Shapiro, who is known for her role in the hereditary horror film, is coming back to the horror genre with “The Hallowarrior.” This forthcoming horror-thriller is labeled as a post-apocalyptic tale infused with a touch of Halloween spirit.
In a new take, “The Hallowarrior” is the brainchild of director Ben Sottak, inspired by his previous short film titled “Scavenger.” Currently in post-production in Syracuse, N.Y., this movie tells the story of Pumpkin, portrayed by Shapiro, who is both a plague survivor and the last girl left on earth.
Who else is in The Hallowarrior cast?
As reported by Variety, Shapiro will be working alongside Shannyn Sossaman, who is known for her role in A Knight’s Tale, in an upcoming horror film. Completing the cast are Ajani Russell from Betty and AJ Bowen, famous for his work in You’re Next.
According to the outlet’s account, The Hallowarrior is depicted as scouring the wasteland for supplies on Halloween’s eve. Pumpkin’s solitary holiday custom is disrupted when a brutal group of looters, headed by the formidable Thalia (Sossamon), confront her at her home. Outmatched and equipped with candy, quick thinking, and weapons, Pumpkin courageously defends herself to make it through the night.

In a statement, Sottak expressed that the film harks back to the enjoyable genre movies he used to watch during every Halloween as a child. The movie exudes a nostalgic fall ambiance, features exhilarating kills that are sure to cheer you up, and introduces a charming ‘final girl’ portrayed by the exceptionally talented Milly Shapiro. I am eagerly anticipating this film becoming a staple in horror enthusiasts’ annual October viewing lineup for many years to come.
In a new development, the character Hallowarrior signals a comeback for Shapiro on the silver screen since his last appearance in the 2018 film Hereditary, directed by Ari Aster. On the other hand, Sossamon has made a name for herself with roles in films such as 40 Days and 40 Nights, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Wristcutters: A Love Story, The Holiday, One Missed Call, Sinister 2, Backspot, and numerous others. Interestingly, she not only stars but also serves as an executive producer for this upcoming movie.
No release date has been set yet for The Hallowarrior.
