On Friday, September 20, Kaviyoor Ponnamma sadly passed away in Kochi following a struggle with cancer at the age of 79. This tragic news has left a deep impact on the film industry as many actors have expressed their sorrow. Recently, Kamal Haasan gave a heartfelt tribute to Kaviyoor Ponnamma for her remarkable work in Malayalam cinema.
Kamal Haasan shared on his account that “Kaviyoor Ponnamma,” affectionately known as the ‘Mother of all Actors,’ passed away. She began her career in Malayalam cinema at a young age and later appeared on Tamil screens (in the film Sathya). Starting as a stage actress at 13, she went on to act in movies, TV shows, and commercials. The news of this talented artist’s passing is deeply saddening. The sad news of Kaviyoor Ponnamma’s passing has sent waves of shock throughout. After her demise, numerous actors, together with politicians and ordinary citizens, assembled at the Municipal Town Hall in Kalamassery to bid a final farewell to this esteemed actress.
Additionally, actors Mohanlal and Mammootty visited to console Kaviyoor Ponnamma’s family and pay their final tributes. These two prominent figures in Malayalam cinema spent considerable time near her deceased body, visibly moved by the loss of a figure they considered as their ‘mother’ in the film industry.
On their respective Facebook pages, both Mohanlal and Mammootty posted touching tributes in memory of Kaviyoor Ponnamma.
Mohanlal penned, “The words you see are born from the sorrow of losing my mother figure, Ponnammachechi. To me, she’s been like a loving grandmother, shaping both the character and the man I am. For our cherished Malayalam audience, we were a mother and son.
