Hender Scheme Elevates Timberland’s 3-Eye Lug Boat Shoe With Fine Japanese Leather

Introducing their initial joint project: Timberland and Japanese artisan leather label Hender Scheme have reinvented Timberland’s classic 3-Eye Lug Boat Shoe, giving it a touch of luxury. In this international partnership, Hender Scheme has redesigned the traditional preppy shoe using premium leather and unique design elements.

Hender Scheme obtains its high-quality, full-grain leather from a local Japanese tannery, allowing the shoes to acquire an authentic patina as they’re used regularly. Initially, the material is light beige, but it deepens into a darker brown shade over time. The partners emphasize that no two pairs are identical, implying that each shoe has its own distinct character that becomes even more pronounced with age.

As I slipped into these bad boys, it was clear that the Hender Scheme boots had a beefier, center-stage leather aesthetic compared to the original design. The iconic Timberland emblem graced the lateral panel, while tiny Hender Scheme logos were embossed on a small leather tab and a removable diamond-shaped tag.

Kiltie tassels on the toe box lent an old-school vibe, but embossed leather eyelets added a modern edge to the design and highlighted Hender Scheme’s mastery of leatherwork. All in all, these boots were a perfect blend of vintage charm and contemporary flair!

On March 12, there will be an online raffle for the Timberland x Hender Scheme 3-Eye Lug Boat Shoe. If you’re lucky, you might also find it available in the brand’s Japanese stores starting from March 21.
