Hearthstone: The Great Dark Beyond – 10 decks to use on Day 1

As a seasoned Hearthstone player with countless hours spent in the digital tavern, I can’t help but be intrigued by the two decks introduced in this article – the Felfused Battery Demon Hunter and Ozzie’s Asteroids Shaman.

Today, there’s a lot of apprehension in the United States for understandable causes. Nevertheless, Hearthstone is attempting to divert attention with its latest addition – the Year of the Pegasus’ final expansion, titled “Hearthstone: The Great Dark Beyond“. This cosmic voyage invites you to journey into space! With this expansion come 145 new cards for every class in the game and some fresh mechanics that promise excitement.

Today marks the launch of The Great Dark Beyond, so it’s high time we explore decks created by top Hearthstone players and streamers. Recently, Shacknews got a chance to test these decks during a Hearthstone Theorycrafting session. Although we didn’t do too well, we managed to gather insights about some intriguing decks that are worth trying out on the first day of play.

Without further delay, here are some decks worth trying out on day one of The Great Dark Beyond.

MarkMcKz’s 8 Hands Death Knight

  • 2x (2) Crystal Welder
  • 2x (2) Guiding Figure
  • 2x (2) Mining Casualties
  • 2x (3) Chillfallen Baron
  • 2x (3) Crop Rotation
  • 2x (3) Dimensional Core
  • 2x (3) Soulbound Spire
  • 2x (4) Arkonite Defense Crystal
  • 1x (4) Helya
  • 2x (4) Suffocate
  • 2x (5) Corpse Explosion
  • 1x (6) Exarch Maladaar
  • 1x (6) The Headless Horseman
  • 1x (7) Kil’jaeden
  • 2x (8) Soulstealer
  • 1x (8) The 8 Hands From Beyond
  • 1x (8) The Exodar
  • 1x (8) The Primus
  • 1x (100) The Ceaseless Expanse

Deck ID

It might seem that reducing each player’s decks to their top eight costly cards would expedite the game, but The 8 Hands From Beyond is merely an initial move. This spell ensures that the newly acquired Kil’Jaeden legendary remains in the Death Knight’s deck. Consequently, a Demon portal will be opened, rendering Fatigue virtually impracticable.

One crucial aspect of this game deck strategy involves avoiding the play of Helya on Turn 4. If Helya is played following the deployment of The 8 Hands From Beyond, it significantly increases the chances of drawing neverending Plague cards. Additionally, playing The Headless Horseman after both decks have been reduced will give the Death Knight an edge in terms of resources.

Of course, keep in mind that Kil’Jaeden is a Neutral card, so if the strategy is Fatigue, the opponent can just as easily get their Demon portal online. Be careful!

Clakr HELLSCREAM’s Quasar Asteroids Rogue

  • 2x (0) Preparation
  • 2x (0) Shadowstep
  • 2x (1) Dig for Treasure
  • 2x (1) Gear Shift
  • 2x (1) Spacerock Collector
  • 2x (2) Fan of Knives

  • 2x (3) Knicknack Shack
  • 2x (3) Mic Drop
  • 2x (4) Dubious Purchase
  • 1x (4) Elven Minstrel
  • 2x (6) Quasar
  • 2x (7) Eredar Brute

Deck ID

Initially, Quasar appeared to be an unusual charm, making one wonder if anyone would dare to re-stack their entire deck, rendering them virtually tool-less. However, it’s interesting to note that when you have spells like Quick Pick for drawing cards and places like Knickknack Shack set up, there’s a possibility of creating an unending machine for drawing cards.

When the mechanism for drawing cards is set in motion, it’s then appropriate to begin deploying Moonstone Maulers and creating a barrage of asteroids, a spectacle reminiscent of heavy rainfall. It appears that Shaman isn’t the sole class capable of showering the field with rocks.

Oh, and we’ll get to Shaman in a moment.

RegisKillbin’s Libram Paladin

  • 2x (1) Astral Vigilant
  • 2x (1) Orbital Satellite
  • 2x (2) Hi Ho Silverwing
  • 2x (2) Interstellar Researcher
  • 2x (3) Flickering Lightbot

  • 1x (5) Yrel, Beacon of Hope
  • 2x (6) Libram of Faith
  • 1x (6) Lumia
  • 1x (7) Amitus, Leader of the Exiled
  • 1x (100) The Ceaseless Expanse

Deck ID

Guess what, long-time Hearthstone players! Librams are back!

Indeed, you’ll find fresh Librams designed specifically for Paladin. What sets this apart is the introduction of strategies to lower the cost of these Librams throughout the game. For instance, cards such as Interstellar Starslicer and Interstellar Wayfarer will diminish the price tag on your Librams. This could lead to a swarm of 3/3 Divine Shield minions from cards like Libram of Faith, which might present a greater challenge than you’d initially anticipate.

Yrel, the Radiant Beacon, has the ability to reactivate ancient Libram artifacts. Although there’s only one of her, if you have a guardian called Astral Vigilant prepared, you can create multiple copies and add more Librams to your battlefield.

MartianBuu’s Demon Warlock

  • 2x (1) Fracking
  • 2x (2) Abduction Ray
  • 2x (2) Defile
  • 2x (2) Elemental Geode
  • 2x (2) Foreboding Flame
  • 2x (3) “Health” Drink
  • 2x (3) Demonic Dynamics
  • 2x (3) “Health” Drink
  • 2x (3) Demonic Dynamics
  • 2x (3) Furnace Fuel
  • 2x (3) Infernal Strategem
  • 2x (3) Relentless Wrathguard
  • 1x (4) Pop’gar the Putrid
  • 1x (7) Archimonde
  • 2x (7) Eredar Brute
  • 1x (7) Kil’jaeden
  • 2x (8) Black Hole
  • 1x (9) Sargeras, the Destroyer
  • 2x (10) Table Flip

Deck ID

In a novel twist, the latest Warlock deck by MartianBuu leverages the power of collective force, not in the conventional sense of a zoo or a crowd. Instead, it cleverly utilizes the array of demon discovery mechanisms available, along with fresh cards designed to reduce the cost of those very demons.

The Pivotal Blaze plays a crucial role in this deck setup, as it reduces the cost of any freshly introduced Fiends, which also encompasses the ones summoned by Kil’jaeden. Archimonde subsequently has the ability to re-summon these Fiends for another powerful late-game offensive surge. At the minimum, it can delay the game progression while the Demons summoned by Kil’jaeden grow in power.

Nohandsgamer’s OTK Starship Hunter

  • 2x (1) Rangari Scout
  • 2x (1) Scarab Keychain
  • 2x (1) Tracking
  • 2x (2) Biopod
  • 2x (2) Birdwatching
  • 2x (2) Crystal Welder
  • 2x (2) Laser Barrage
  • 1x (3) Exarch Naielle
  • 2x (3) Parallax Cannon
  • 2x (3) Specimen Claw
  • 2x (4) Arkonite Defense Crystal
  • 2x (4) Yelling Yodeler
  • 2x (5) Alien Encounters
  • 2x (5) Star Power
  • 1x (6) Aggramar, the Avenger
  • 1x (7) Kil’jaeden
  • 1x (8) The Exodar

Deck ID

Hunter now possesses an overwhelming One Turn Kill (OTK) strategy, which unfolds through The Great Dark Beyond’s thrilling new mechanic: Starships. To assemble these starships, specific Starship Component cards are required, and they can be deployed at any time for a 5 Mana cost. When properly equipped with the appropriate components, the Hunter’s starship could deliver a lethal blow in a single strike. The Arkonite Defense Crystal enhances the starship’s armor, while the Biopod strikes for the value of that armor. Moreover, the Yelling Yodeler card can trigger the starship’s effect twice, potentially dealing the final, fatal blow.

As a gamer, ensuring I have the perfect cards at my disposal is crucial for success. That’s where the new Exarch Naielle legendary shines. It transforms my Hunter’s Hero Power into Tracking, enabling me to spot the right card for each turn and set up the winning condition like a well-oiled machine.

Chump’s Draenei Zoo Warrior

  • 2x (0) Through Fel and Flames
  • 2x (1) Cup o’ Muscle
  • 2x (1) Miracle Salesman
  • 2x (1) Starlight Wanderer
  • 2x (2) Crystalline Greatmace
  • 2x (2) Stranded Spaceman
  • 2x (2) Trouble Mechanic
  • 2x (3) Crimson Commander
  • 2x (3) Expedition Sergeant
  • 1x (3) Gorgonzormu
  • 2x (4) Captain’s Log
  • 2x (4) Stalwart Avenger
  • 2x (4) Unyielding Vindicator
  • 2x (5) Ace Wayfinder
  • 1x (5) Exarch Akama
  • 1x (6) Khaz’goroth
  • 1x (7) Velen, Leader of the Exiled

Deck ID

The Warrior seldom engages in the zoo game, but the introduction of the new Draenei minion type has made it possible. Affordable Draenei characters paired with spells such as Through Fel and Flames, Cup o’ Muscle, and Captain’s Log help to pull and strengthen any Draenei cards in your hand, while enhanced minions like Unyielding Vindicator generate significant early aggression.

The key victory point lies with Exarch Akama. As you populate the battlefield with fortified creatures, Akama empowers them to strike multiple times, which could swiftly shift the outcome of a game within just a few moments.

Theo’s Starship Druid

  • 2x (1) Arkonite Revelation
  • 2x (1) Malfurion’s Gift
  • 2x (2) Crystal Welder
  • 1x (2) Sha’tari Cloakfield
  • 2x (3) Frost Lotus Seedling
  • 2x (3) New Heights
  • 2x (3) Starlight Reactor
  • 2x (4) Arkonite Defense Crystal
  • 2x (4) Distress Signal
  • 1x (4) Exarch Ohtaar
  • 2x (5) Cosmic Phenomenon
  • 1x (5) Uluu, the Everdrifter
  • 2x (6) Crystal Cluster
  • 1x (7) Final Frontier
  • 1x (7) Kil’jaeden
  • 1x (7) Sleep Under the Stars
  • 1x (9) Zilliax Deluxe 3000
    • 1x (4) Twin Module
    • 1x (5) Perfect Module
  • 1x (10) Eonar, the Life-Binder
  • 1x (100) The Ceaseless Expanse

Deck ID

In this expansion, a Druid has multiple methods to intensify its power. The Starlight Reactor, being a Starship component, enables the casting of Arcane spells twice. With smart use, it can swamp the Druid’s side with substantial figures. Additionally, Distress Signal introduces 2-Cost minions, while Cosmic Phenomenon boosts all minions by +1/+1 when the board is fully occupied.

By utilizing cards such as the recently introduced Final Frontier and Eonar, the Life-Binder from the Titans deck, an adversary may find themselves overpowered rather swiftly.

Warshack’s Elemental Mage

  • 2x (1) Fire Fly
  • 2x (1) Glacial Shard
  • 2x (2) Aqua Archivist
  • 2x (2) Flame Revenant
  • 2x (2) Heat Wave
  • 2x (2) Shale Spider
  • 2x (2) Spontaneous Combustion
  • 2x (3) Blasteroid
  • 2x (3) Blazing Accretion
  • 1x (3) Dreamplanner Zephrys
  • 2x (4) Lamplighter
  • 2x (4) Overflow Surger
  • 2x (4) Unchained Gladiator
  • 1x (5) Mes’Adune the Fractured
  • 2x (5) Solar Flare
  • 1x (6) Incindius
  • 1x (6) Saruun

Deck ID

As a gamer, if this deck feels like an old friend, that’s because it’s essentially a twist on the popular Elemental Mage that’s dominating the meta right now. The new Elementals have given this deck a serious boost, especially with cards like Blasteroid and Saruun in play. When you combine Saruun’s Fire Spell Damage +1 buff with Blasteroid’s discounted Fire spells, it can be a game-changer. But remember, there are other paths to victory too.

Essentially, Mage gameplay strategy remains similar: Place an Elemental on each turn, followed by utilizing Overflow Surgery to outmaneuver opponents, ultimately concluding with a Lamplighter finish. With sufficient practice, you should be able to master this technique effectively.

Roffle’s Pirate Starship Demon Hunter

  • 2x (1) Acupuncture
  • 2x (1) Brain Masseuse
  • 1x (1) Patches the Pilot
  • 2x (1) Sock Puppet Slitherspear
  • 2x (1) Treasure Distributor
  • 2x (2) Adrenaline Fiend
  • 2x (2) Felfused Battery
  • 2x (2) Sigil of Skydiving
  • 2x (2) Spirit of the Team
  • 2x (3) Hot Coals
  • 2x (3) Hozen Roughhouser
  • 2x (3) Shattershard Turret
  • 2x (3) Warp Drive
  • 2x (3) Dangerous Cliffside
  • 1x (4) Metamorphosis
  • 1x (5) Aranna, Thrill Seekerter
  • 1x (7) Zilliax Deluxe 3000
    • 1x (3) Pylon Module
    • 1x (4) Ticking Module

Deck ID

As a seasoned Demon Hunter, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement with the arrival of the latest game expansion. The new Crewmates look enticing with their alluring stats and abilities, but let me warn you fellow gamers – these Crewmates are shrouded in suspicion! Don’t be deceived by their tempting offers; they might seem beneficial at first glance, but always keep your guard up.

Instead, consider enhancing your existing deck’s power by incorporating the latest Starship Pieces. With minions like Felfused Battery and Hozen Roughhouser from the previous expansion, Demon Hunter can swiftly overrun the enemy with Pirates. Thanks to Patches the Pilot and Sigil of Skydiving, numerous Pirates will have Charge, allowing them to charge directly at your opponent.

At the beginning of the game, it’s optimal to have the One-for-One Pirates present. However, if they arrive late, a starship equipped with Fused Battery and Shattershard Turret can swiftly boost their power. They should strike hard and fast, and always be prepared for a possible final blow with Aranna, Thrill Seeker, utilizing her damage redirection ability.

Ozzie’s Asteroids Shaman

  • 2x (1) Fire Fly
  • 2x (1) Shock Hopper
  • 1x (2) Menacing Nimbus
  • 2x (2) Moonstone Mauler
  • 2x (2) Needlerock Totem
  • 2x (2) Shale Spider
  • 2x (2) Triangulate
  • 2x (3) Minecart Cruiser
  • 1x (3) Turbulus
  • 2x (3) Ultraviolet Breaker
  • 1x (3) Zola the Gorgon
  • 2x (4) Bolide Behemoth
  • 2x (5) Living Prairie
  • 1x (6) Incindius
  • 2x (6) Meteor Storm
  • 1x (6) Murmur
  • 1x (6) Shudderblock
  • 1x (7) Kalimos, Primal Lord
  • 1x (7) Skarr, the Catastrophe

Deck ID

To be honest, I didn’t find this deck very effective myself, but don’t hesitate to give Asteroids a try. The Asteroids Shaman is incredibly powerful, and it’s all about discovering the right strategies to maximize cards such as Moonstone Mauler and Bolide Behemoth.

In this game setup, the wild card is the recently added Murmur, which lowers every Battlecry minion to 1 health, but with the condition that they all perish at the end of their turn. The optimal strategy is to pair it with Shudderblock and either Incindius or the previously mentioned Bolide Behemoth. This setup allows for a powerful attack, where you aim to draw as many Asteroids as possible, preferably boosted, to overpower your opponent before they even realize what’s happening.

Instead of placing Zola the Gorgon in my deck to primarily obtain multiple Incindius or Kalimos, it might be wiser to adopt a less greedy approach. Explore successful Asteroids Shaman decks for inspiration, and construct one tailored to your unique playing style that delivers optimal results.

Among the suggested decks for your initial gameplay in Hearthstone: The Great Dark Beyond, which launches today, are some options. Which decks do you plan on employing? Feel free to share your thoughts below and let us know your preferred strategies!
