The highly-anticipated slasher film titled “Heart Eyes” is set to hit U.S. cinemas on February 7, 2025. In this thrilling tale, a duo of work colleagues are mistaken for a romantic pair by the notorious Heart Eyes Killer, who then embarks on a deadly pursuit of them on Valentine’s Day night. Early responses to the movie have been overwhelmingly positive, resulting in an excellent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Heart Eyes reviews call it ‘a very entertaining ride’
As a enthusiast, I’d say Aidan Kelley from Collider notes that Heart Eyes aims to blend chilling slasher elements with a cheerful romantic comedy. However, it seems the film relies too heavily on typical tropes of both genres, which keeps it from achieving a perfect strike in that regard. Nevertheless, Kelley also mentions that despite this, it’s still a highly enjoyable rollercoaster ride from start to finish.
Courtney Howard of Variety commends the film as “extremely self-conscious” and filled with “humorous jabs at itself” along with “gruesomely choreographed deaths.” To Howard, the blend of genres is “charming in its quick-witted appeal.
Frank Scheck from The Hollywood Reporter praises director Josh Ruben and his team for Heart Eyes, stating that their clear passion for the genre is evident in each scene of the movie. To add, Heart Eyes features numerous smart and creative elements.
As stated by A.A. Dowd from IGN, Heart Eyes might not reach the level of wit as the top entries in the ongoing horror series, but it still offers a fair share of entertaining aspects. These range from the genuine performances of the leads to the over-the-top gore provided by Josh [Ruben], director of Werewolves Within.
As a passionate admirer, I’m thrilled to echo the praise from Meagan Navarro at Bloody Disgusting. She commends Ruben for masterfully balancing romance and horror in this incredible genre blend, making it a truly captivating experience.
Heart Eyes scores high on Rotten Tomatoes
Based on current reviews at aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the film “Heart Eyes” enjoys a remarkable 93% approval rating after 41 critiques. As the premiere date nears, these figures may shift, but with such a high score, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the movie will probably maintain its “Fresh” certification status.
