HBO’s Harry Potter Cast Finalizes Hogwarts Staff, Including Hagrid, Snape, & More

At long last, HBO has unveiled the primary actors who will be part of the Harry Potter cast in the eagerly awaited television series based on J.K. Rowling’s cherished children’s fantasy books. It is anticipated that filming will commence at some point during this year.

The project spanning over a decade, referred to as the series, intends to bring each book from J.K. Rowling’s renowned Harry Potter series to life in its respective season. At present, the hunt for the next actors to play Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley is ongoing in the U.K. and Ireland. The selected young actors should be aged between 9 and 11 when filming begins.

Who is joining the Harry Potter cast?

In the upcoming Harry Potter series, award-winning actors John Lithgow (“The Crown”) and Janet McTeer (“Tumbleweeds”), both Golden Globe winners, have been confirmed to play prominent roles as faculty members at Hogwarts. This includes Emmy nominee Paapa Essiedu (“Gangs of London”) and BIFA nominee Nick Frost (“Shaun of the Dead”). Lithgow, McTeer, Essiedu, and Frost will portray beloved characters Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, Severus Snape, and Rubeus Hagrid, respectively. Furthermore, Luke Thallon (“Present Laughter”) and Paul Whitehouse (“The Fast Show”) have been chosen to play the recurring roles of Quirinus Quirrell and Argus Filch, who are both part of the Hogwarts staff.

The HBO series, based on the iconic Harry Potter book series, will be penned and overseen creatively by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (known for Killing Eve and Succession). Mark Mylod takes on directing duties. The production boasts a captivating ensemble cast to captivate a new legion of fans. Apart from Mylod, the executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman, who has been associated with the Harry Potter franchise for a long time. This project is a joint effort between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.

Thrilled beyond words, I’m excited to share that John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon, and Paul Whitehouse have joined our cast! Each one will be stepping into the magical shoes of Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell, and Filch respectively. I can hardly contain my excitement about having such an extraordinary group of actors breathing new life into these cherished characters.
