HBO Harry Potter Series Update Reveals Release Date Window

As a seasoned gamer of the magical world that is Harry Potter, my heart skipped a beat upon hearing the latest updates about the upcoming series. With Casey Bloys at the helm and Francesca Gardiner as showrunner, I am confident we are in for an unforgettable journey through Hogwarts once again.

The forthcoming Harry Potter series has been given a number of encouraging developments by Casey Bloys, who is both Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content. In an exclusive conversation with Deadline, he disclosed that preparations for the series are now in motion, with scriptwriting and casting currently underway.

According to Bloys, “Writers are now at work, and Director Mark Mylod has begun as well.” He added that the team is currently in the process of hiring department heads, casting personnel, and the project is underway.

Recently, Warner Bros. Television has launched a search for new actors to portray Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger in the UK. The call states that potential candidates must be aged between 9 and 11 as of spring 2025. It’s important to note that this date does not mark the commencement of filming.

Bloys clarified that no specific date has been revealed yet. However, he mentioned that the young actors’ ages are set for March, which does not automatically imply the start of production.

Previously this year, David Zaslav, President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, revealed intentions for the debut of the Harry Potter series in 2026. Bloys clarified the timeframe but hinted that there might be a delay by an additional year.

According to Bloys, the show is expected to debut sometime between late 1926 and early 1927. Since the writers are still in the initial stages of work, he believes it’s premature to discuss an air date at this point.

Who is Involved in the Harry Potter Series?

In June, it was announced that Francesca Gardiner took on the roles of showrunner and writer for the Harry Potter series, while Mark Mylod was selected to direct several episodes. Both of them have previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed HBO drama Succession.

In each installment of the Harry Potter series, a book by J.K. Rowling is being brought to life: The Sorcerer’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Azkaban’s Escapee, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows.

In collaboration with J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman, Gardiner and Mylod will serve as executive producers for the show. The series is a joint production between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.
