In a single touch, director Gareth Evans (The Raid) discerned that Tom Hardy had the readiness to portray an action star in the Netflix film “Havoc.
Tom arrived in an incredibly focused state, as if he were a powerfully built creature, according to what Evans shared with Empire. I gently touched his shoulder, and it felt like touching stone. He had clearly put a lot of effort into his physical preparation.
In a new role, Hardy takes on the character of Walker, a tenacious detective compelled to delve into the seedy side of society, ready to go to any lengths necessary to accomplish his objective, even if it involves dealing with unsavory situations.
Walker isn’t smooth or gentle. Instead, he aims to create chaos and destruction wherever he goes,” Evans explained. “He doesn’t gently guide you into an arm lock; rather, he grabs you roughly by the back of the neck and forces your head into the closest hard object.
Evans has demonstrated expertise in directing action films with titles like The Raid and The Raid 2. However, Havoc marks a shift away from the martial arts-centric narratives.
[Evans] clarified that Havoc wasn’t intended to become a martial arts movie,” he said. “Instead, he aimed for it to emulate the intense gunfights that he personally enjoys in films.
