HashKey Europe, the European division of the Hong Kong-based HashKey cryptocurrency exchange, made a substantial advance by securing a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license from Ireland’s Central Bank on January 7th. Under the terms of the license, HashKey Europe Limited is authorized to provide regulated cryptocurrency services throughout Ireland. These services encompass fiat-to-crypto and crypto-to-crypto trading, secure digital wallet solutions for clients’ assets, and digital asset transfers. Ireland functions as a key strategic base from which the company can expand its global operations.

Ireland adheres to stringent registration rules for crypto service providers, as mandated by the Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD5) of the European Union. Furthermore, their decision to implement the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) underscores their commitment to fostering a safe and progressive financial ecosystem.

MiCA Regulations Set December Deadline

By the end of December 30, 2024, crypto companies in Ireland must adhere to the new licensing conditions as per MiCA regulations. Those currently active can carry on their operations for up to a year, or until they receive approval or rejection of their Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) authorization application.

Derry Rowland, acting as deputy governor at the Central Bank of Ireland, underscored the importance of MiCA in establishing consistent practices across European Union member states, all while enhancing the authorization process via collaboration within the industry.
