As a long-time follower of Tamil cinema and a passionate admirer of Rajinikanth‘s work, I must say that I am both intrigued and concerned by the recent developments surrounding Vettaiyan and its underperformance at the box office. While it is no secret that expectations for films starring such illustrious actors can often be unrealistic, the fact remains that a film of this caliber should have fared better financially.
The highly anticipated movie “Vettaiyan” featuring Rajinikanth, Fahadh Faasil, and Amitabh Bachchan appears to have fallen short in meeting its high-anticipated earnings at the box office. Despite boasting an impressive star lineup, a compelling narrative, and catchy soundtrack, the film managed to gross just Rs. 207 crore globally during its initial week. This unexpected underperformance has left many moviegoers in a state of bewilderment.
According to a report by M9 News, it’s alleged that Lyca Productions, who produced the movie, are asking Rajinikanth to cover their losses by starring in another film with them.
It appears that the creators have supposedly requested the superstar to lower his salary for their upcoming project, due to the fact that Thalaiva’s past films with them didn’t meet expectations. But as of now, neither the producer nor the actor has officially confirmed this matter.
Under the direction of TJ Gnanavel, the film Vettaiyan brought back Rajinikanth to our screens, reprising his legendary role as a police officer. Interestingly, during a recent event, the director hinted at the possibility of creating a prequel for this movie.
He highlighted his interest in delving into the nature of Athiyan, portrayed by Rajinikanth, and tracing his journey to become an encounter specialist. Additionally, he wanted to understand how the other characters evolved into their current roles.
TJ Gnanavel expressed that he is drawn to the idea of developing a prequel for the film “Vettaiyan: The Hunter”. This potential sequel could offer insights into Athiyan’s evolution as an encounter specialist, detailing Fahadh Faasil’s transition from being a thief to a police informant, and providing a deeper look into the story’s historical background.
In addition, legendary Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan has teamed up with Rajinikanth once more on the big screen following a gap of nearly three decades since their last joint project, “Hum,” which was released in 1991.
