Has Mercy for None Season 2 Been Canceled or Renewed?

With the latest arrival of “Mercy for None” on Netflix, fans of the highly praised K-Drama are flocking to the internet to discover if it’s been renewed for a second season or if it has been canceled. Starring So Ji-sub in the main role, the series centers around the turbulent journey of Nam Gi-jun, a former gangster who re-enters the criminal underworld of Seoul following his brother, Nam Gi-seok’s mysterious death.

After finishing its initial run on the streaming service, here’s all we currently know about the highly anticipated second season of Mercy for None.

Is Mercy for None Season 2 renewed or canceled by Netflix?

Netflix has not greenlit Mercy for None for a sophomore installment as of writing.

According to the webcomic “Plaza Wars: Mercy for None” by O Se-hyung and Kim Gyun-tae, Netflix developed it as a limited series. As a result, no decision has been made about a second season, neither cancellation nor renewal, for the gripping South Korean crime drama. Instead, it has completed its seven-episode run.

As a dedicated fan, I follow So Ji-sub’s character, Nam Gi-jun, on his relentless quest for vengeance. Haunted by the murder of his beloved brother, he dives back into Seoul’s treacherous underworld. Unbeknownst to him, the criminal landscape is now dominated by two powerful mob groups. The first is helmed by Lee Ju-woon, a former mentor to Gi-seok, Nam’s brother. On the other hand, Koo Bong-san wields power over the second faction. Initially, Gi-jun believes that Koo Jun-mo, the hot-headed son of Bong-san, could be the culprit. This young man had suffered humiliation at the hands of his brother, which might have fueled his desire for revenge.

In the final episode, So Ji-sub’s character seeks vengeance for his brother’s demise, and ultimately spends time by a fire, reminiscing about his lost sibling. This brings closure to all storylines in Mercy for None, while also wrapping up Gi-jun’s journey effectively, suggesting there may not be a second season. Given the series was initially designed as a miniseries, viewers should not hold out much hope for another season, despite its first run being highly successful.
