And with 1923, I found myself deeply engrossed in the struggles of the Dutton family’s new generation, particularly their battles against the harsh winter conditions that threatened them in the latest season. Now, with the Season 2 finale freshly dropped, I can’t help but wonder: is there more story to unravel in 1923? Will we get a Season 3? Or, has the series been put on hold?

Is 1923 Season 3 canceled or renewed by Paramount+?

At the time of writing, 1923 has not been renewed by Paramount Plus for a Season 3.

The final episode of Season 2 was released on April 6, 2025, with a total of 7 episodes in this season. Fans were hoping for more, as they thought the number of episodes might be similar to that of Part 1 (which had 8 episodes).

According to Taylor Sheridan, the show’s creator, there were plans for a series of eight episodes in part 2 of the show. Many streaming platforms now split their shows into different seasons or parts to keep viewers engaged. However, unlike other shows, season 2 of 1923 did not follow this trend by releasing all its episodes as scheduled without any interruptions or pauses.

Instead of just additional episodes, fans have been eagerly anticipating the next parts of the series’s narrative. Although no formal announcement has been made, it appears that season 2 might mark the conclusion of this Dutton family saga. However, it’s important to note that the story doesn’t end there. For those who are unaware, 1923 is a prequel to the hit show Yellowstone and a sequel to 1883. This means that the tale of the Dutton family will continue in another spin-off series following Yellowstone, titled 1944.

The season finale of the second series saw Alexandra’s heartbreaking demise following the birth of her and Spencer’s son, John. Subsequently, Spencer spans 45 years, nurturing John Dutton II, a significant character in Yellowstone. Consequently, the upcoming season is anticipated to delve into Spencer’s experience raising his child. In an exclusive chat with Variety, Brandon Sklenar, portraying Spencer, shared insights on the future of the series franchise.

He mentioned, “Absolutely, we’re planning for 1933, ’43, ’53, ’63. I’m particularly excited about ’63. There’s a wealth of material to work with there. Additionally, I can’t wait to film the scenes featuring Spencer at Woodstock as an elderly man. I believe he would have been a big fan of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
