Harvey Weinstein Supports Justin Baldoni in Blake Lively Lawsuit

Harvey Weinstein has been in the news lately for standing by Justin Baldoni amidst his legal dispute with Blake Lively and The New York Times. From inside prison, the ex-producer drew parallels between Baldoni’s situation and his own past encounters with the media.

Here’s why Weinstein chose to back Baldoni and how it links to the legal fight with Lively.

Why Harvey Weinstein is picking Justin Baldoni over Blake Lively

From behind bars, Weinstein expressed his view to TMZ on April 9, 2025, stating that The Times selectively presented information (cherry-picking) in a manner similar to Baldoni’s allegations, disregarding crucial context and facts that didn’t align with their narrative.

1. In a lawsuit filed for $250 million, Baldoni is taking legal action against The New York Times over an article published in December 2024, which he considers filled with errors.

2. Baldoni’s lawsuit against The New York Times has left Weinstein shaken. He shared that the lawsuit reminded him of the emotional trauma he faced when The Times reported on sexual harassment allegations against him in 2017.

Baldoni has additionally initiated a lawsuit worth $400 million for defamation and extortion against Lively and her spouse, Ryan Reynolds. In response, Lively has brought charges of sexual harassment and retaliation against Baldoni, citing inappropriate behavior during the set of It Ends With Us. Her legal representatives stated in a January 2025 press release, “This is not a ‘dispute’ stemming from ‘creative disagreements’… Wayfarer Entertainment and its affiliates are accused of illegal, retaliatory astroturfing against Ms. Lively” (as reported by Variety). The legal battles persist with a trial set for the following year.

In a similar vein to Baldoni’s allegations, Weinstein linked his 2017 encounter with The Times to his claims, expressing remorse for not having the courage to speak up about distorted truths at the time. He admitted that this silence still weighs heavily on him. Megan Twohey, who covered Weinstein in 2017, was also involved in the 2024 article featuring Baldoni and Lively. The Times defended its investigation into Weinstein, asserting that it meticulously reported the story through interviews, settlements, and documents. They further stated that none of the facts presented in their coverage have been contested.

In 2024, I found myself still incarcerated at Rikers Island, waiting for my upcoming retrial, as the court overturned my 2020 conviction. On top of that, I’m grappling with a separate 16-year sentence from a California case.
