HBO Max unveiled the initial image of Nick Frost, known for his roles in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, stepping into the beloved role of Rubeus Hagrid in the forthcoming Harry Potter series. Originally, Robbie Coltrane portrayed this character in all eight films of the successful Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter movie franchise before his passing.
After the unveiling of the initial set photograph featuring Dominic McLaughlin in his role as the new Harry Potter, it’s clear that filming for the much-awaited television adaptation has started. This HBO production is slated to air in 2027.
Who else is in the Harry Potter HBO show?
In addition to Frost and McLaughlin, Harry Potter will be played by newcomers Alastair Stout (portraying Ron Weasley) and Arabella Stanton (as Hermione Granger). Joining this cast are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
The HBO version of this story is overseen by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (known for Killing Eve and Succession). Mark Mylod takes on the role as director. This adaptation will remain true to the cherished Harry Potter book series, boasting a dynamic and gifted cast to introduce a fresh wave of fans. Besides Mylod, the executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and veteran Harry Potter producer David Heyman. This production is a collaboration between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.
