It’s being reported that John Lithgow is in the advanced stages of discussing his role as Albus Dumbledore for HBO’s upcoming “Harry Potter” TV show.
At present, HBO is working on a brand-new Harry Potter TV series, which is being penned by writer and showrunner Francesca Gardiner. Additionally, Mark Mylod has joined the project as both a director and executive producer.
Per Deadline, Lithgow now appears to be in final negotiations to play Dumbledore in the show.
HBO did not verify the reports. Instead, they stated in a release, “Given the popularity of this potential show, there’s bound to be plenty of gossip and guesswork. During the pre-production phase, we will only confirm information once we’ve solidified our agreements.

At the moment, no further cast members for the Harry Potter series have been announced. As of now, specific storyline aspects are being kept confidential. However, it’s widely speculated that this new series will be a loyal portrayal of the original Harry Potter books.
In the initial two Harry Potter films, Dumbledore was brought to life by Richard Harris. Sadly, Harris passed away in 2002, and Michael Gambon took over the role for the remaining six movies. However, it’s Jude Law who played a younger version of Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts prequels.
A premiere date for the Harry Potter show has not yet been announced.
