Michael Cera shares his reasons for declining the opportunity to be in the Harry Potter Fantastic Beasts sequel films.
After the eight movies in the primary Harry Potter film collection, Warner Bros. Pictures put out three additional films based on Fantastic Beasts: These were Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (released in 2016), Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (in 2018), and most recently, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (in 2022).
Newt Scamander is portrayed by Eddie Redmayne in the movies; Katherine Waterston takes on the role of Tina Goldstein; Alison Sudol plays Queenie Goldstein; Dan Fogler stars as Jacob Kowalski; Jude Law steps into the shoes of Albus Dumbledore, and there are more talented actors to watch out for.
What did Michael Cera say about turning down a Fantastic Beasts role?
On the Louis Theroux podcast through IndieWire, Cera disclosed that he had been contemplated for a part in Fantastic Beasts, yet ultimately chose not to accept the offer.
He stated, “I’m not certain if there was an offer, but I opted not to participate because I believed it would involve a commitment of around six years, or so. Additionally, I decided to reduce my involvement slightly and have more control over it. Regarding children’s films, I had concerns about becoming excessively famous.
…”I believe I no longer experience that emotion as before, yet it seems to have been that sentiment at that point in time. However, should an appealing franchise emerge today, I wouldn’t reject it just because it’s a franchise; I wouldn’t make a dramatic exit from the office over it.
At this moment, you can stream all three Fantastic Beasts films on Max. Simultaneously, HBO is working on a new Harry Potter series for television. As for Cera, he’s currently featured in Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme, which is showing in theaters across the United States.
