Harry Potter HBO Show’s Cornelius Fudge Will ‘Be Furious’ If It’s Not Amazing

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but share some buzz from the world of entertainment. The upcoming Harry Potter TV series hasn’t even started filming, and yet, one of its cast members is creating a stir by hinting at possible departure.

In June 2025, Bertie Carvel is set to portray Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic, in HBO’s Harry Potter adaptation. This character was previously played by the late Robert Hardy in the Warner Bros. film series inspired by J.K. Rowling’s novels, and will now make recurring appearances throughout the first season.

What did Bertie Carvel say about the Harry Potter TV show?

Because Fudge is a character who appears in every Harry Potter book, it’s assumed that Carvel will play him throughout the entire series. But, in an interview with The Times, the actor suggested that he might not stay involved with the reboot if the audience doesn’t approve of it.

The actor shared his thoughts, saying, “I’m unsure how this new role will fit into my current lifestyle. Prior to getting this opportunity, I hadn’t read these books or watched their adaptations. However, I remember enjoying one of the movies, perhaps even two. If I had been introduced to these books as a child, I would have been captivated by them.

I approach this project with an open mind and eagerness. Whether I return for more episodes in the future will largely depend on the response from the fans. Frankly, if the part isn’t fantastic, I might be quite upset.

In a fresh take, Dominic McLaughlin steps into the role of Harry Potter, Alastair Stout portrays Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton brings Hermione Granger to life. Joining them will be John Lithgow as the wise Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer in her role as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as the lovable Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, along with other talented actors.

Francesca Gardiner is taking the lead in writing and overseeing the HBO’s version of Harry Potter, with Mark Mylod assigned as its director. This adaptation is said to be loyal to J.K. Rowling’s book series. Filming for Harry Potter is scheduled to start towards the end of this year, prior to its premiere on HBO in 2026.
