According to recent reports, Warner Bros. has added another significant actor to the lineup of the upcoming HBO adaptation of the “Harry Potter” series. Currently, the production team is still in the process of finding more talented individuals for the extensive cast, as they continue their casting journey during pre-production.
Who is playing Cornelius Fudge in the Harry Potter HBO show?
As a gaming enthusiast sharing some exciting news, I’m thrilled to share that Bertie Carvel, known for his stellar work on The Crown, has apparently taken up the role of Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge in an upcoming project. You might remember Robert Hardy, the late English actor who initially brought this character to life in the Harry Potter films. However, it’s important to note that HBO hasn’t confirmed Carvel’s casting yet. This new role would be another feather in Carvel’s cap as he’s also set to appear in HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which I can hardly wait for!
An HBO spokesperson acknowledged that the high-profile nature of this series may lead to much conjecture and gossip regarding Carvel’s role as Cornelius Fudge. However, they stated that until agreements are fully settled, they would only disclose information when it becomes official.
In a fresh casting lineup, Dominic McLaughlin takes on the role of Harry Potter, Alastair Stout steps into Ron Weasley’s shoes, and Arabella Stanton portrays Hermione Granger. John Lithgow will bring Albus Dumbledore to life, Janet McTeer becomes Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu takes on Severus Snape, Nick Frost assumes the role of Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon is Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse plays Argus Filch.
The HBO version of the story is being written and overseen by showrunner Francesca Gardiner (known for Killing Eve and Succession), with Mark Mylod at the helm as director. This adaptation will stay true to the cherished Harry Potter book series, boasting an energetic and gifted ensemble to captivate a fresh wave of fans. Besides Mylod, J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and long-standing Harry Potter franchise producer David Heyman are also serving as executive producers. The production is a collaboration between HBO, Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television.
