In a recent interview, it was disclosed by the director of “Captain America 4,” Julius Onah, that an early version of the script for the movie almost included Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk character wielding a firearm. The highly anticipated film, starring Anthony Mackie, hit theaters on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025, raking in $88 million during its opening weekend. However, “Captain America: Brave New World,” which was one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year, drew a mix of positive and negative feedback from both critics and fans alike.
Captain America 4 director reveals Red Hulk’s deleted gun idea
In a recent interview, the director of The Cloverfield Paradox discussed an interesting tidbit about his past work. He revealed that at one point, it had been considered to arm Harrison Ford’s character (Red Hulk) with a gun in the upcoming Captain America 4 film.
Julius Onah explained to JoBlo Celebrity Access that the concept ultimately didn’t fit the film. He said, “At one stage in the development process, Red Hulk brandishing a firearm was considered, but it seemed out of place for the final product.

Additionally, Onah mentioned that there was “an interaction where Harrison portrayed Red Hulk brandishing a firearm.” He labeled it as “one of those instances when you think, ‘I can’t believe this is actually unfolding before my eyes.’
In the comic series, it’s common for the Red Hulk character to employ firearms. Even though he shares super strength with the Green Hulk, the Red Hulk has demonstrated a knack for gun use in these comics. One of his well-known weapons is the S.H.I.E.L.D. handgun, which, as per Screen Rant’s report, can harm gamma mutates such as the Green Hulk.
Earlier, Harrison Ford discussed portraying the Red Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, describing it as a fantastic experience. Speaking to Variety in December 2024, the actor shared that he aimed to grasp “the vision of the filmmakers, and be helpful to them.” Ford also mentioned, “It was enjoyable, and I had a wonderful time.
