As a seasoned gamer, I’ve finally found what I’ve been longing for – the ultimate Elden Ring-style boss rush! It’s called Nightreign, an exhilarating roguelike, cooperative adventure that puts teamwork and strategic thinking to the test as we face off against formidable foes waiting at the end of each run. But before we can challenge the terrifying Nightlords, there are some substantial hurdles to overcome first. These challenges come in varying difficulties, demanding a fair amount of skill to conquer without losing a life.
Every adventure features unique nighttime bosses drawn from various FromSoftware games. Enemies known from all the Dark Souls series, some recurring figures from the original Elden Ring, and a few fresh challenges await, pushing players to their absolute limits. The roster is quite varied, and the level of challenge can be extremely challenging right from the outset. Occasionally, adventurers might have an effortless battle that smoothly transitions into the next phase of their journey, but on other occasions, a formidable adversary could mean the end for even the most powerful players.
8. Bell Bearing Hunter
An Early Barrier That Can Put Up Quite The Fight

The Bell Bearing Hunter, often encountered early in the game during the nighttime, could mark your initial brush with defeat. While he may not appear exceptionally flashy or challenging, his attacks extend further than they seem and can strike you where you least expect it. His overall damage output is significant, making him a formidable adversary, particularly when players are at their most vulnerable on the first night.
For broadly varied teams, he poses minimal hassle due to his restricted mobility, but for close combat players, his relentless attacks can be quite challenging, particularly for novices who aren’t yet familiar with his attack patterns. Even when accompanied by a trio of teammates, defeats are frequent, and players should expect multiple revivals to advance into the second day.
7. Duke’s Dear Freja
Simple Attacks But A Boat Load Of Spiders

For numerous gamers, The Duke’s Freja evokes memories from more than a decade past. Yet, she has returned and improved, retaining many familiar attacks while still instilling the same dread of arachnids. What makes her problematic isn’t her attack patterns or damage, which are generally controllable, but rather the multitude of spiders that can swarm players if they’re not cautious or haven’t reached a high enough level to eliminate her swiftly.
Regardless of the number of enemies slain, they persistently swarm, creating an overwhelming ordeal for a solitary player. This battle calls for considerable perseverance, as striking multiple blows is seldom possible before an ominous creature approaches to ensnare the player. Additionally, the webbing assaults can provoke frustration, as they immobilize the player and make it exceedingly challenging to evade the relentless onslaught of attacks from every direction.
6. Outland Commander
Reach And Summons That Hit Like a Truck

Although he may go by another name, he possesses the same formidable power. The Outland Commander transports Commander Niall from the frozen peaks and plops him right into the heart of Limveld, retaining much of his arsenal of attacks and preserving his status as a formidable adversary. What sets him apart is that you can now challenge him with a group of three, but beware! Even when facing him one-on-one, individual spirits prove to be a significant threat.
The Commander has a sneaky range and swiftly bridges the distance with a wounded player attempting to recuperate. Moreover, since his attacks predominantly cover wide areas, avoiding him from behind won’t always ensure safety, and it might even be wiser for one player to confront him directly, while others attack from a distance. For those players who aren’t ready for the fight, he can prove fatal.
5. Dancer of the Boreal Valley
Deadly Before, Just As Deadly Now

I’m back on the virtual battlefield, gracefully pirouetting through the rain-soaked arena, just like old times in Dark Souls 3. The Dancer’s moves may be familiar, but for gamers new to her swiftness and ferocity, this dance could prove a deadly waltz. The real challenge here lies in anticipating where her attacks are heading, given how quickly she strikes.
Regardless of one’s distance, no one is immune to danger, especially when an opponent like Ironeye lurks on the battle’s edge. A single decision to target this solitary foe can swiftly erode safety, as she leaps into action with a series of rapid strikes that could fell tougher opponents in mere moments. The key lies in timing and managing aggression, ensuring that she focuses on the right adversary at the opportune moment, and not overpowering the entire group with her deadly chains.
4. Astel, Naturalborn of the Void
Area Attacks Where No One Is Safe

In the game Elden Ring, Astel has made multiple appearances. It’s fought not only as a boss during side quests, but also at the end of certain dungeons. The battle against it is often unpredictable, offering both easy victories and challenging encounters. This inconsistency arises from two factors: the colossal size of Astel and the ambiguity surrounding its attacks. A player might think they’re safe standing just outside its massive tusks, only to find their safety vanish in an instant.
The issue lies with the limited space in the arena due to the large size of the creature. This makes it difficult to determine when to strike and where to avoid its area-of-effect attacks. Additionally, its health pool is significantly larger than that of most nighttime bosses, which is further complicated by the vulnerable spot being located in a hazardous zone on its head. However, once defeated, the sense of achievement from overcoming such a challenge makes the rune reward even more satisfying.
3. The Full-Grown Fallingstar beast
Speed That Comes Out Of Nowhere

The relentless and formidable Fallingstar Beast is renowned for its unyielding tenacity, making it one of the most challenging boss fights, whether encountered in the original game or roaming the expanses of Limveld plains. This imposing adversary boasts a diverse array of attacks that can strike from a distance, close quarters, and wide areas, often taking players by surprise who might typically over-rely on their dodge mechanism. Inexperienced or unprepared players often fall victim to its cunning tactics, as the boss swiftly dashes across the battlefield at high speed and swiftly attacks players in rapid succession.
The battle is a drawn-out affair, and as time passes, stones might appear in the combat zone. These stones serve dual purposes: they offer protection for ranged attacks and can act as hindrances during close-quarters engagements when the beast chooses to charge. Players who have encountered similar creatures in the past may feel overly confident and underestimate the challenge, only to find themselves off guard and risking a defeat for their team.
2. Ulcerated Tree Spirit
A Game Of Hitboxes Rather Than Skill

As a player, I’ve always found the Ulcerated Tree Spirits to be an imposing and tricky adversary. This monstrous blend of flesh and timber moves swiftly across the battlefield, seemingly unfazed by whatever obstacles might cross its path. At times, it can be challenging to discern where to position myself to dodge its powerful attacks.
The enemy doesn’t launch an overwhelming number of wild attacks, but it packs several surprise strikes capable of inflicting massive damage on unprepared players. Similar to larger bosses, ranged users generally find themselves in a relatively safe position, but should never grow complacent because the adversary can quickly move across the ground and swiftly spin around, transforming almost any area into a potential hazard that demands cautious exploration.
1. Nameless King
The Spectacle Fight Returns

It was clear from the previews that the Nameless King’s comeback would lead to an exhilarating adventure for players. True to form, he doesn’t fail to impress, reintroducing the same two-part battle that is often praised as one of the genre’s finest and demanding just as much, if not more, patience than previously required.
For players struggling to build a strong offensive sequence during their playthrough and prepare adequately for such a battle, they will soon discover themselves being swiftly knocked out left and right by a barrage of powerful attacks that can eliminate both individual opponents and entire teams simultaneously. Taking turns to attack could be an effective tactic when tackling him as a group, allowing one player to absorb the majority of his aggression while others take advantage of their opportunities to inflict any damage they can on his colossal health bar. It’s a challenging fight that demands a great deal of determination and precision, but with victory, the sensation is remarkably similar to facing a powerful Nightlord.
