In the recently unveiled teaser for Paramount+’s forthcoming true-crime series, Dennis Quaid adopts a cheerful demeanor.
The premiere of “Happy Face” is set for March 20, with the first two episodes airing initially. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly thereafter. This upcoming series, spanning eight episodes in total, will delve into the gripping true account of Melissa G. Moore, who, at a tender age, uncovered her father Keith Hunter Jesperson as the infamous Happy Face Killer.
The show derives inspiration from Moore’s genuine crime podcast and jointly written memoir titled “Shattered Silence” by M. Bridget Cook. This production is associated with the creators behind “Your Honor” and “The Good Wife.
What happens in the Happy Face trailer?
The trailer features Moore, played by Annaleigh Ashford, disclosing on live television that her father is the infamous Happy Face Killer. This real-life serial killer, known for his chilling moniker due to his habit of sketching smiley faces in his correspondence with media and law enforcement, was responsible for the deaths of at least eight women in the early 1990s. He is now serving a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Based on real events, Happy Face follows the tale of Melissa Reed, who is the daughter of Keith Jesperson, also known as the Happy Face Killer. After many years without contact, Keith re-enters his daughter’s life, and Melissa must determine if an innocent person might be wrongly executed for a crime her father committed. Along this journey, she confronts questions about her own identity.

Apart from Quaid and Ashford, Happy Face features James Wolk known for his role in Front of the Class as Ben Moore, David Harewood recognized from The Night Manager portraying Dr. Greg, Tamera Tomakili seen in Winning Time as Ivy, Khiyla Aynne famous for The Ponysitters Club as Hazel, Benjamin Mackey well-known for The Morning Show as Max, and many others.
Happy Face premieres on Paramount+ on March 20.
