Hamnet Release Date Set for Oscar-Winning Director’s Movie With Paul Mescal

A release date for Hamnet has been set.

The recently announced film titled “Hamnet” was penned and helmed by the Academy Award-winning director, Chloé Zhao. This upcoming production features Paul Mescal, Jessie Buckley, and other talented actors.

When is the release date for Hamnet?

On November 27, 2025, Focus Features plans to debut Hamnet in select U.S. cinemas. By December 12, 2025, it will broaden its release and become available nationwide.

According to the official summary, the acclaimed filmmaker Chloé Zhao presents “Hamnet”, a compelling tale of love that served as the basis for William Shakespeare’s renowned play, Hamlet.

Alongside Emily Watson and Joe Alwyn, this film boasts an impressive cast. In terms of production, Liza Marshall, Pippa Harris, Nic Gonda, Sam Mendes, and Steven Spielberg have taken on producer roles, while Zhao, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Laurie Borg have assumed executive producer positions.

In 2015, Chloe Zhao launched her directorial career in film with Songs My Brothers Taught Me. Subsequently, she created The Rider in 2017 and later, in 2020, she directed Nomadland – a movie that garnered her the Best Director Academy Award. That same year, Nomadland also won the Best Picture award at the Oscars. Following this success, Zhao went on to direct the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Eternals, which premiered in 2021.

Hamnet is based on a novel written by Maggie O’Farrell that was published in 2020.
