Gwyneth Paltrow Told Marty Supreme Intimacy Coordinator To Step Back When Filming Sex Scenes

Gwyneth Paltrow told the Marty Supreme intimacy coordinator to “step a little bit back” when filming sex scenes for the upcoming A24 movie starring Timothée Chalamet.

The film “Marty Supreme” is an upcoming movie produced by A24, directed by Josh Safdie. It features Timothée Chalamet as a talented ping-pong prodigy. In the movie, Gwyneth Paltrow plays the wife of one of Chalamet’s rival table tennis players, and eventually develops a romantic relationship with his character.

“This woman who is married to someone who is in the Ping-Pong mafia, as it were,” Paltrow told Vanity Fair. “They meet and she’s had a pretty tough life, and I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both.”

What did Gwyneth Paltrow say about filming Marty Supreme’s sex scenes with an intimacy coordinator?

Paltrow said of Marty Supreme, “I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie. There’s a lot—a lot…There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I did not know existed.”

Paltrow said that, at one point, the film’s intimacy coordinator asked her if she was comfortable filming a particular scene.

“I was like, ‘Girl, I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on,’” Paltrow said. “…We said, ‘I think we’re good. You can step a little bit back.’ I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but…if someone is like, ‘Okay, and then he’s going to put his hand here,’  I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that.”

The cast of Marty Supreme also includes Tyler, the Creator, Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller), Kevin O’Leary (also known as Mr. Wonderful), Abel Ferrara, and more. The screenplay was co-written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, both of whom also produce the movie alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet, and A24.

Marty Supreme will be released in United States theaters on December 25, 2025, by A24.
