Greyhound 2 Filming Start & Plot Details Unveiled, Tom Hanks to Return

It’s been announced that Sony Pictures is now working on a sequel titled “Greyhound 2“, a continuation of the 2020 war drama film directed by Tom Hanks. Notably, Hanks himself has agreed to return and reprise his character as Captain Ernie Krause.

What is Greyhound 2 about?

The sequel to Greyhound, titled Greyhound 2, will trace “Krause and his Greyhound team’s journey from the shores of Normandy to the Pacific ocean, where they contribute significantly to the course of World War II.” Filming for this upcoming WWII action drama is slated to start in January 2026 in Sydney, Australia. As of now, there is no announced theatrical release date, and auditions are ongoing. Stephen Graham, famous for his role in Adolescence, is said to be in discussions to reprise his character.

Once more, Aaron Schneider will direct the upcoming sequel, with a script penned by Hanks. Joining him is Gary Goetzman, who returns as producer for Playtone. This project marks another collaboration between Hanks and Goetzman, following their work on Apple’s war drama miniseries Masters of the Air, which they previously produced last year.

In 2020, a film was adapted from C.S. Forester’s novel The Good Shepherd. This movie was set during the initial phases of World War II. Tom Hanks and Matt Damon were supported by Rob Morgan (known for Stranger Things and Daredevil), Elisabeth Shue, who has been nominated for an Oscar (Leaving Las Vegas), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Karl Glusman (The Neon Demon), among others.

In the movie Greyhound, Captain Ernest Krause (played by Hanks) leads a group of 37 Allied ships through the dangerous North Atlantic waters known as the Black Pit. For five days, they are chased by packs of Nazi U-boats. With no air cover to protect them, the captain and his convoy fight off the enemy to give the Allies a chance to emerge victorious in the war.
