Green Lantern Fan Theory Debunked for Superman DCU Movie

A popular Superman fan theory involving a Green Lantern character has been debunked.

In about two weeks, Superman will make his appearance in American cinemas. This film, produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures, is penned and helmed by James Gunn. The leading characters are David Corenswet portraying the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult stepping into the shoes of Lex Luthor.

What Superman Green Lantern fan theory has been debunked?

Photographs taken on the set of Superman’s creation started circulating online, depicting Corenswet’s Superman engaging in conversation with a squirrel. Some spectators speculated that Ch’p, a beloved Green Lantern character among fans, might be featuring in the DCU movie.

More recently, Gunn mentioned this topic, and it appears that the squirrel is simply a common animal.

In the universe of DC, it’s not just about good guys and bad guys; there are many variations of right and wrong, he explained to Brandon Davis. “The group portrayed as ‘Justice Gang’ in the film, while they may use that title, not everyone agrees on it. They work for a corporation, which can be quite unconventional. They’re prepared to take lives when necessary. This is simply their nature. However, it’s interesting because Superman represents the opposite. He values every life, whether it belongs to a human, a flying dog, or even a squirrel. I aimed to depict that for Superman, in such situations, saving those in danger outweighs the desire to win or defeat the villain.

Ch’p might not appear in Superman, but there’s a chance he could be featured in the Lanterns TV series set to premiere in 2026, where Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierre takes on John Stewart, and Nathan Fillion portrays Guy Gardner, among other stars.

Superman hits theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025.
