Grave Seasons doesn’t hold back in its marriage of coziness and horror

There’s a particular type of person who derives comfort from the thrill of horror films. You know the type – they relax by watching slasher movies or even find humor in possession flicks. These are the folks that Perfect Garbage is aiming to captivate with Grave Seasons, a farming sim game that blends horror and mystery. During Summer Game Fest, I had a chilling glimpse of Ashenridge, the eerie town where this game takes place, during a demo.

As a newcomer in the peaceful town of Ashenridge, I found myself stepping into a place where tranquility seems to hide secrets. My very first encounter was with Hari, a humble farmer who shared a chilling tale – the person who lived in my newly acquired abode vanished without a trace. Quite unsettling indeed!

I chose to set aside the peculiar incident and delve into farming, much like in Stardew Valley. I sowed seeds in well-prepared soil and watered them diligently. However, my tranquil gardening was disrupted when I unearthed a severed hand. Upon sharing this discovery with Hari, he exhibited an expected level of alarm which, strangely, made me feel uneasy as well. Although I’m accustomed to horror game characters displaying unsettling behaviors, there was something unnerving about witnessing a character react so humanly to such a bizarre occurrence.

Following our conversation, I gathered some of my virtual crops and deposited them in a sales bin, preparing myself for the evening’s events. Agitated now, I arranged to meet a character later that night. There, I found myself witnessing an event so shockingly violent and gory that it sent chills down my spine. I honestly never imagined a pixel art farming sim would make me jump like a Resident Evil game. It completely altered my preconceived notions about a game I thought only offered “creepy atmospheres.

Being captivated by farming simulators, mysteries, and horror genres, Grave Seasons has me hooked and eager for more insights about Ashenridge and the hidden forces at play. Yet, I also crave to cultivate an attractive farm filled with a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Play Days. Keep in mind that the finished product may still undergo changes.
