Goonies 2: Sean Astin Shares Fan Poster, Makes Case for Sequel

As a child of the 80s, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia when I see Sean Astin, Mikey from The Goonies, hinting at a potential sequel to this iconic film. Growing up with the adventures of these lovable misfits, their camaraderie, and their quest for One-Eyed Willie’s treasure was more than just watching a movie – it was an experience.

Recently, Sean Astin shared on social media a fan-created poster for what appears to be “Goonies 2,” and he also sent a hopeful note to the film’s director, Steven Spielberg.

What did Sean Astin say about Goonies 2?

In a recent update on platform X, Astin playfully encouraged Steven Spielberg – the original story writer – to create a sequel movie by sharing a poster featuring a possible title for the second film and a tentative release year of 2026. The design of the poster is straightforward, only displaying the potential title and a suggested release date window.

Check out the fan poster Astin shared below:

The original poster for RuPaul’s Drag Race Family debuted on their official Facebook page. In this poster, a beam of light can be seen coming down from an opening above, shining onto the new Goonies Are Good Enough. This title might be a nod to the Cyndi Lauper song from the original film’s soundtrack.

1985 saw the debut of “The Goonies,” a thrilling comedy adventure directed by Richard Donner that I absolutely adore! This film revolves around a band of friends who are on a mission to save their homes from repossession and stumble upon an unbelievable treasure map in the process. The movie boasts a stellar cast, including Sean Astin, Josh Brolin (yes, the same one from Marvel films), Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy Quan. I still remember watching this classic on VHS as a kid!

The movie made a tremendous impact when it first premiered and has since established itself as one of the most iconic films ever made. In recognition of its cultural, historical, or artistic importance, it was chosen in 2017 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
