As a long-time enthusiast and connoisseur of cinematic art, I must say that 2024 was indeed a remarkable year for the Southern film industry, with six of its gems making it to Google’s Most Searched Films list. The sheer diversity and brilliance displayed in these films are nothing short of breathtaking.
2024 was an exceptional year for the Southern film industry, as it produced some truly awe-inspiring movies. Actors from Tollywood spared no effort in delivering outstanding performances, earning praise and recognition well beyond our borders. Now, six South films have secured top positions on Google’s list of Most Searched Films for 2024.
In a list of rankings, it’s none other than the movie “Kalki 2898 AD,” starring Prabhas, that holds the second spot. Directed by Nag Ashwin, this film has rightfully earned its place on the list due to its impressive box office success.
Other movies on the list are placed as follows: Hanu-Man by Teja Sajja in fifth spot, followed by Maharaja starring Vijay Sethupathi, Manjummel Boys directed by Shoubin Shahir, and The Greatest Of All Time featuring Thalapathy Vijay.
In the following slot, Prabhas will appear again with his movie “Salaar”, whereas Fahadh Faasil’s film, “Aavesham”, has secured the tenth place.
For those unfamiliar, the movie Kalki, released in 2898 AD, amassed a staggering total of approximately 979 billion rupees at its box office worldwide, making it the fifth highest-grossing Indian film ever. Conversely, Salaar managed to earn around 600 crores globally.
Indeed, with its sequel already confirmed and Prabhas set to start work on it shortly, Salaar undeniably had even greater cause to captivate viewers’ attention.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that Manjummel Boys is a Malayalam film that has garnered praise from viewers not just in one area but several. These accolades extend to its technical elements, performances, writing, and direction.
Although it featured multiple stars, this movie, inspired by a true event, effectively conveyed the story and created a powerful impact on viewers beyond merely serving as entertainment.
The movie “Maharaja” by Vijay Sethupathi is another production that has sparked curiosity globally. Following its highly successful screening in India, it prepared for a remarkable debut in China, spreading across numerous cinemas.
