As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for wrestling and movies, this news about Hulk Hogan’s biopic, titled Killing Gawker, has me pumped up! The fact that it’s being penned by Charles Randolph, who brought us the Oscar-winning The Big Short, adds an extra layer of excitement.
A Hulk Hogan movie is being written by The Big Short’s Charles Randolph.
The movie known as “Killing Gawker” is inspired by a 2018 novel called “Conspiracy” written by Ryan Holiday. This book delves into the true story of Hulk Hogan’s lawsuit, funded by Peter Thiel, against Gawker Media – the company that posted Hogan’s private video online.
The news was first reported by PWInsider.
What else do we know about the Hulk Hogan movie?
As a die-hard fan here, I’ve got some exciting news to share! Jeff Sneider from The InSneider first broke the scoop about Good Will Hunting‘s Gus Van Sant potentially directing a film. However, Deadline has shared that these are merely preliminary discussions between Van Sant and the project team at this stage. So fingers crossed that this collaboration comes to fruition!
As an ardent admirer, I’m excited to share that according to recent reports, the upcoming film is rumored to feature Ben Affleck as Hogan and Matt Damon in the role of Thiel. However, at present, they are only listed as producers under their Artists Equity banner, as per Deadline. PWInsider’s article hints at discussions about Affleck and Damon taking on acting roles within the movie, but an official confirmation is yet to be made.
Production on Killing Gawker is expected to begin in January 2025.
Gus Van Sant is well recognized for directing movies like Good Will Hunting, Drugstore Cowboy (1989), Finding Forrester (2000), Elephant (2003), Milk (2008), Promised Land (2012), and Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot (2018). In the latter film, Matt Damon starred, and he also played a role in and co-wrote Van Sant’s Gerry movie (2002).
Damon and Ben Affleck previously worked together in Good Will Hunting, now available on Max. Currently, you can catch Damon in The Instigators alongside Casey Affleck in select U.S. theaters before it hits Apple TV+ on August 9. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck has recently wrapped up filming a follow-up to 2016’s The Accountant.
