GOG Announces New One-Click Mod System, Skyblivion Mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Coming This Year

GOG has just unveiled its latest project: one-click mods.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but share my excitement about the One-Click Mods project. It’s designed to make installing mods quicker and more effortless than ever before! Instead of spending hours searching and setting up mods yourself, this service offers a carefully selected collection of premium mods that are already bundled with their respective games for the smoothest installation experience possible. So, whether you’re a seasoned gamer or just starting out, One-Click Mods is here to make your gaming life easier and more enjoyable!

Additionally, GOG stated that mods play a crucial role in the conservation of video games. These user-created mods can correct game issues such as bugs, missing cutscenes, questlines, and characters. Furthermore, they allow for the creation of entirely new content by passionate fans.

We’re thrilled to inform you that we won’t be keeping Skyblivion to ourselves for much longer – it’s coming to you later in the year! Many thanks to our pals at GOG.com for aiding us in making this moment possible and more approachable for everyone.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve found an amazing collection so far, packed with mods for classics like Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete, Doom 3, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, and the latest, Fallout 4. For the Heroes series, you’re in for a treat as this expansion brings new factions, campaigns, creatures, artifacts, and a myriad of user-friendly enhancements, including a functional multiplayer lobby system. On the other hand, Fallout 4 mod offers a one-click setup for Fallout: London, an independent narrative set in the UK during the apocalyptic events from Fallout 4.

As a gamer, diving into the world of Doom 3, I grab hold of the Phobos mod, a prequel that transports me back to the roots of the original game. It offers an immersive, story-driven first-person shooter experience, enriched with contemporary updates.

On the other hand, for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, I apply the unofficial patch. This fixes a myriad of bugs that were left untouched by the original creators, ensuring a smoother gameplay experience. Additionally, it restores and enhances cut content, adding fresh quests, levels, characters, and dialogues to the game.

Not only that, but the eagerly awaited mod, Skyblivion, for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, is set to release on GOG as well this year. It’s going to be incorporated into the One-Click Mods initiative.

Skyblivion is a volunteer-led initiative by the TESRenewal modding community, dedicated to reimagining The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion within Skyrim: Special Edition. Although Bethesda has recently released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered in April, they’ve shown their support for this project by granting it their approval. In fact, Bethesda provided keys to the entire Skyblivion team for Oblivion Remastered as a gift!

GOG’s latest project is part of a series aimed at safeguarding games. Last year, they unveiled their preservation initiative to secure classics like Resident Evil, Fallout: New Vegas, and The Witcher 2. This new venture comes amid growing worries from creators and enthusiasts that the shift towards online and digital-only games might render some titles inaccessible entirely, such as The Crew, which Ubisoft withdrew from sale and deactivated in March 2024.
