Godzilla x Kong: Supernova Gets Production Update as Filming Moves

The long-awaited film, Godzilla vs. Kong: Supernova from Legendary, has just received a fresh update about its upcoming sequel’s production progress. As of now, it is set to hit theaters on March 26, 2027. Although it will have no direct box office rival on its premiere date, it will be launching in the same month as another highly anticipated movie – Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

What’s the latest update on Godzilla x Kong: Supernova?

Via an Instagram post, costume designer Ann Foley has announced that the shooting for Godzilla x Kong: Supernova will soon commence in Utah. Earlier, the team behind this movie completed filming in Australia.

Godzilla vs. Kong: Supernova is being helmed by Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) from a script penned by Dave Callaham. The ensemble will star Golden Globe nominee Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey, Legion), Jack O’Connell (SAS: Rogue Heroes), Delroy Lindo (Sinners), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things), Alycia Debnam-Carey (Fear the Walking Dead), and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park). Interestingly, Stevens will reprise his role as Trapper from the 2024’s Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire. According to reports, the movie will showcase several new human characters along with the popular titans, Godzilla and Kong, as they confront a destructive, world-ending peril.

The MonsterVerse series by Legendary kicked off in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, featuring Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Due to its popularity, it was followed by subsequent films like Kong: Skull Island (2017) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), as well as the epic battle Godzilla vs. Kong. Furthermore, Legendary teamed up with Netflix for an animated Skull Island series that debuted on Netflix in 2023. The studio is not only expanding its film franchise but also developing a spin-off series for Apple TV+ called Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which will return for a second season.
