Glen Powell Weighs in on Twisters Kiss Scene Debate, Feels Everybody Wins

As a gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can relate to Glen Powell‘s casual and lighthearted approach to the Twisters controversy. Just as in gaming, where we sometimes face unexpected glitches or missing features that initially frustrate us, the world of movies isn’t immune to last-minute changes.

After facing criticism for cutting a kissing scene between the leading characters in the film “Twisters“, actor Glen Powell maintains everyone is still “victorious” and finds it entertaining that viewers are taking such an interest in a disaster movie.

In the movie Twisters, directed by Lee Isaac Chung, we follow a group of storm chasers as they attempt to control an enormous tornado in Oklahoma. This film serves as a standalone sequel to the 1996 Twister, starring Bill Paxton. Although the movie garnered substantial box office success, many viewers were disappointed by the absence of a pivotal kiss scene between Tyler Owens (played by Powell) and Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones). Now, the actor is addressing the backlash concerning the film’s final edit.

“It’s clear that the criticism doesn’t go unnoticed by me! You might recall the off-screen moments where I shared a kiss with Daisy Edgar-Jones, which, for me, is what truly matters. [Laughs] We had a fantastic experience making the movie, and I take great pride in it. It’s heartening to see that people are so invested, and Daisy and I exchange the TikToks and GIFs they create.” – Powell explained to ScreenRant. “The backlash just goes to show how much passion there is for this film, which is truly wonderful. We appreciate the excitement it’s generated.”

He went on to say, “There’s an abundance of hilarious content emerging from it. It’s entertaining! That’s what summer movies are all about. They spark conversations and create cultural trends, and people enthusiastically participate. It’s been incredibly enjoyable. Regardless if there’s a kiss or not, everyone comes out on top.”

Why was the kiss scene cut from Twisters’ final version?

Initially, Powell and Edgar-Jones had a scene where they kissed, but this wasn’t included in the final version of the movie. Later on, it was disclosed that the director decided against featuring the kissing scene. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he explained his decision, stating that including the kiss would suggest that Kate’s storyline revolved solely around finding a romantic partner.

Rather than concluding the story with Kate stopping her activities, the director prefers wrapping it up with Kate being able to carry on with what she’s been doing, as he believes this is a more fitting ending.

The film also stars Anthony Ramos as Javi, Maura Tierney as Cathy, Brandon Perea as Boone, Daryl McCormack as Jeb, Sasha Lane as Lily, Kiernan Shipka as Addy, Nik Dodani as Praveen, David Corenswet as Scott, Harry Hadden-Paton as Ben, Tunde Adebimpe as Dexter, and Katy O’Brian as Dani.
