After over two years since the announcement, film producer Will Packer has recently provided an update on the progress of ‘Girls Trip 2‘. As of now, there’s no set date for when filming will begin or when the movie will hit theatres.
It’s anticipated that Director Malcolm D. Lee and Writer Tracy Oliver will be back for the upcoming sequel. The main cast members, Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish, are set to reprise their roles as Ryan, Sasha, Lisa, and Dina respectively. The initial release in 2017 garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success, earning over $140 million at the global box office.
What was producer Will Packer’s Girls Trip 2 update?
During a chat on Andy Cohen’s show, Watch What Happens Live, Packer shared that Girls Trip 2 is indeed being worked on. He disclosed that a script for the sequel has already been drafted. Moreover, he hinted at their intention to add fresh female characters to complement the original cast. Additionally, he mentioned that he’s keeping an eye on The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16, as he’s always on the lookout for promising new talent.
Packer stated (through Deadline) that they’re considering an unnamed extraordinary location for their next project, as he has a script for the first time. “Girls Trip is making a comeback,” Packer mentioned. “We’re planning Girls Trip 2 with all our original cast members and potentially some new faces.
The main storyline revolves around four college pals taking a trip to New Orleans for the Essence Festival, hoping to strengthen their bond once more. This movie featured performances by Larenz Tate, Kate Walsh, Mike Colter, Mike Epps, Deborah Ayorinde, Lara Grice, and Kofi Siriboe. The production company was Universal Pictures, with Will Packer as the producer; James Lopez and Preston Holmes served as executive producers.
